I just cannot help myself

The wait is finally over! Diehard fans of Kajol and real Aamir fans like me who waited to see them together must have sighed a deep breath of relief! Expected to be one of the mega blockbusters of 2006, this movie boasts of the following highpoints: Aamir Khan and Yash Chopra - a smashing combination that comes together after 14 years (the duo last worked together in Parampara in 1993) Aamir Khan and Kajol - undoubtedly two of the best performing talents of Bollywood paired opposite to each other for the first time.

Director Kunal Kohli who proved his sensitive treatment of subject with Hum Tum extracting classic performances from both Rani and Saif! And \’last\’ but not the least Jatin and Lalit - (reportedly) composing together for the last time for this film. The latest promo shows Aamir Khan flipping his jacket and walking through the monumental structures of Delhi, the mood is set for a trademark Yash Chopra film. Kajol spinning her head and swaying her hair in air just adds to your belief. So after an adventurous Bunty Aur Babli, a new-age Salaam Namaste and a formulaic Neal-N-Nikki, Fanaa goes back into the Yash Raj zone of ethereal and chaste love.

Celebrations, traditions and fun follow giving a euphoric effect. Jatin-Lalit\’s infectious track Subhan Allah plays in the background. Kajol plays a blind girl in the film. Aamir who plays Rehan Qadri, a flirtatious local tour guide takes Zooni Ali Beg (Kajol) for a ride across Delhi but subsequently falls in true love with her. The names of Aamir and Kajol flash on the backdrop of snowfall that subtly implies the setting of the film on the backdrop of terrorism in Kashmir. Rehan is not just a guide; he has another face of life that he has kept away from Zooni.

This becomes clearer with the last scene of the trailer showing Aamir changing his image from the flippant guide to a more intense character, firing a bullet. The trailer ends on a heavy-worded dialogue with Kajol saying “teri dil mein meri saanson ko panaah mil jaye… teri ishq mein meri jaan fanaa ho jaye” Fanaa means \’destroyed in love\’ The pair has never seen before opposite each other after working such a long time in film industry. Kajol will be on silver screen after such a long time (last she was seen on in K3G for which she bagged the award for Best Actress) and this moment Aamir is at his career’s pick form (Post MPTR and RDB).

In my opinion Fanna will rock. Is this story inspired from a true story? A terrorist in Kashmir, district commander in Anantnag to be more precise, used to take shelter in the house of a poor Kashmiri family by force. In the process he fell in love with a simple Kashmiri girl in that house. The girl put up a condition to her marriage with him. He will have to give up arms and surrender to the police. He did so. This man now is an informer and lives a happily maried life. He also believes that terrorism cannot achieve anything to Kashmiris and that being good Indian citizens is the right thing to do.

This true story reflects an important thing - An ordinary Indian (Kashmiri) girl is capable of doing what our police forces, investigating teams, army, diplomats, bureucrats can’t. Persuading terrorists to give up arms. Hats off to her. I hope the movie is based on this story. Well, maybe I’m alone I am thinking this but I predict their pairing will be a jarring one. Kajol is more stand-offish than sweet and Aamir very convivial (and I’m talking about their earlier screen personas) so I don’t think anyone should think of this as a straight forward romantic outing a la DDLJ or KKHH.

Aamir is better suited with actresses who, while sweet, have an air of maturity. Juhi Chawla and Manisha Koirala are the most obvious examples. I think his chemistry with Urmila in ’Rangeela’ was also exciting. But don’t get your hopes up for the creation of a new iconic screen pair. ’Fanaa’ will not be a romantic movie. And besides, we all know Tabu is going to steal the show and it’s true that they have a certain mystery about themselves and would fit into a different film like this, Aamir was superb in Lagaan and The Rising which is why I know he could pull off anything.

This film will surely rock 2006!!!!! Here is what my first take of the story was or at least I thought would be the biggest twist: Aamir meets Kajol, a sweet blind girl and the tough terrorist falls completely in love with her. He goes straight, with the blessings of his group and they embark on a journey of love, getting married along the way. They then have the kid, And Kajol gets an operation so that she can see and truly savour the kid. Then, as it happens with all men, the truth hits home. At first she stops him by saying that he should eat less, he is getting fat (hence Aamir’s weight loss program).

She follows that up by not letting him stay out on Friday nights and go to the local bar with his friends, because they need ’QUALITY’ time. And God forbid, he sits to watch a cricket match then she just breaks the TV. It all gets too much for Aamir, he realizes that his life is actually FANAA (destroyed) as long as he is with this woman and ultimately a fight ensues. But Kajol has been lifting weights, and can now actually bench press Aamir. She beats the crap out of him (Hence the blood and bandages) and looks all set to kill him, when he somehow gets a hold of a gun and shoots her.

She dies, He goes to jail, the kid cries, but when he tells the courts of his miserable marriage, they too have pity on him and let him go. Here is what my second of the story was or at least I thought would be the biggest twist: As we all know that Aamir is playing a terrorist in the movie that falls in love with a blind girl, Kajol. I thought the twist in the end would be that Kajol would eventually turn out to be an undercover officer of the Indian Army Intelligence who was just pretending to be blind all along in order to nab Aamir’s character and at the end has to make a choice b/w him and her mission hence the title Fanaa. Well first of all I should say Fanna wont be an ordinary romantic dance and sing movie just the same as

former Aamir movies (Mangal Pandey & Lagaan & Sarfarosh) Yes I think Sarfarosh was different cause Aamir described an police officer never showed before. Nowadays whole world are concern about one issue and that is TERRORISM and definitely in this movie we will see an novel view about terrorist who have believe to what they are doing and the reason why they are doing those acts which we all know. Aamir is one of those smart guys in industry undoubtedly and I have some of acceptable reason for myself he started. To work one or two movie in a year and that was sheer risk for any actor and actress in Bollywood people have short memory in this industry after GHULAM he started to play patriotic movies such as SARFAROSH & LAGAAN & MANGAL PANDEY and now FANNA and continue to others. May be it is returning to his perfectionist style.
