Situated around 37 kms from Agra, the city is predominantly built in Red Sandstone and is known as Fatehpur Sikri.
In 1571 the emperor ordered the construction of buildings for his own use and asked the nobelmen to build houses for themselves. Within a years time, most of the work was completed and with in the next few years, a well-planned city with administrative, residential and religious buildings was ready. Among the first buildings to come up was the Jami Mosque.
The Jami Mosque is said to be a copy of the mosque in Mecca and has designs and motifs, derived from the Persian & Hindu architecture.
I recommend everyone to visit this place.
