Get near to fear

Imagine a world where your worst fears become reality. This includes everything from unimaginable heights, to creepy crawly disgusting creatures. Have you ever thought about staring your fear in the eye and getting paid for it? Well if you are thinking about it, do tune in to AXN on Monday nights at 9.00 pm (in case you are to keen on doing so try going to USA and being a part of it.)

This is a welcome relief for audiences of all age groups. A good break from the monotone of tele-serials, movie and music channels. Something that’s a super combo of a few radically different, exceptionally outstanding, exceedingly painful, enormously courageous, unbearably disgusting, hair raising, nail biting stunts.

The show

6 contenders, 3 extreme stunts, 50, 000$, one winner. This is Fear Factor.3 men and 3 women are brought from around the USA to compete for a grand prize of 50, 000$. The contestants are challenged both physically and mentally with 3 stunts (Dares), on the successful completion of which he or she wins the cash. The participants are common men and women. No professional stunt masters but just people out to face their fears. A plethora of people from all walks of life. Electricians to basketball coaches, women cops to porn stars. (Hmmm)

If anyone is too afraid to complete the stunt, he is eliminated;

If anyone fails to complete a dare he is eliminated;

However, if he does, he just gets that closer to the 50G.

Once one has completed the 3 dares, obviously fear is not a factor for him.

A weekly reality show.

One introductory line in every show

Hi! I am Joe Rogan. You are watching Fear Factor. Now, remember that these stunts are extremely dangerous and are performed under the supervision of expert professionals. They should never be attempted by anyone, anywhere, anytime.

(Very important!)

The essentials to get on this show are probably strength, guts, determination and loads of imperturbable self-confidence.

Once you are on the show all you need is concentration, co-ordination, calculation.

Well, then grit, steady pace and some luck is all you’ll need to win Fear Factor.

Another interesting feature of this show is the gamesman spirit showed by the participants. The prize being for the fittest that survives, everyone is at his or her best to distract and discomfort the other at play. There are a few ones who are humble, strong and laconic, a few others who just look efficient and speak through their hat but are actually not sufficient. Some embold and some are around to queer others’ pitch. A handful of them talk the talk and walk the walk with the cash.

As far as the stunts are concerned they are 99.9% secure. The players are all fastened to a safety harness and can always quit at any point. Sometimes one might feel they were good but not good enough when the time factor comes into picture, especially a small margin of seconds. But hey, at least they faced their fears and hmm got to be on TV!

The stunts are adjudicated either on the basis of time limits or on the number of tasks completed. Like for instance,

For the completion of certain stunts, the faster the better getting down one side of a helicopter and climbing up the other (50 ft above the sea)

Sometimes, the slower the better hanging from a thin rod 100 ft above the ground

The second dare is generally the disgusting one. Like retrieving weights from a pit of rotting 20 tons of rotting squid. The snake pit and the rat pit are the most disgusting dares I have seen. There are other interestingly intimidating dares as well. Like the animals’ mock tail constituting of rooster testicles and eating pigs’ ovaries and live’n’kicking beetles.

A few others include walking over a narrow parapet wall on the 25th floor, jumping from one moving truck to the other, cycling from one building to the other over a rope……lots more.. well they have the ideas, the equipment, expertise, and sponsors’ finance…….. so mera kya jaata hain?

I am a regular viewer of this show. Obviously it is much much easier sitting on my coach and cheering the best ones, but hey, that’s all I can do now. So wait till I get to the UsofA!

Do turn on AXN, Monday night at 9.00 pm

I assure you, that you will like this show.
