I recently ordered an item on Trend-in. Unfortunately Fedex is their logistics partner. It took Fedex 2-3 days to deliver the shipment after it reached the town where I stay. In the meanwhile, they kept on making some 10-15 status updates on their tracking site.
My observations:
Fedex staff is spending more time in making creative status updates, rather than being out on the street to deliver shipments.
Some of the status update (like "out for delivery" at 8:29am every morning) are so obviously a lie.
There is no process control, either for delivery or customer service. This is allowing Fedex staff, to get away with worst service standards without losing their job.
Delivery staff is advised as per company policy to not call customers before delivery (their claim is that they cannot call as there are too many shipments).
Delivery staff makes it a point to not leave a missed you card, even if they by chance happen to be out for delivery
