Were the middle children of history. No purpose or place. We have no Great War. No Great depression. Our great war is a spiritual war. Our great depression is our lives.
The first rule of Fight Club is, you do not talk about Fight Club.
The second rule of Fight Club is, you DO NOT talk about Fight Club!
I am breaking the rule now. And I am writing a review on Fight Club . So few of you must have got the clue now that I am a member of some organization ;)
There was a poll on one website asking people to name their personal top 10 movies. Almost 85 % of them had Fight Club in their list and 25% had Fight Club topping their list! Well I must say this movie is worth even more than that.
Fight Club is a mess. A chilling, challenging, funny, violent, painful, shocking and exciting mess. So what surprises me the most is how much I like this mess. It is based on the novel Fight Club by Chuck Palahniuk . Very few movies are better than the original novel on which they are based. Fight Club is one of them. Infact it far exceeds the novel.
It was my desire to write a review on Fight Club since quite some time. Well till some 5 months back, I avoided watching Fight Club cause I thought it must be some ridiculous movie with men getting together, forming a club and fighting each other!
I was so wrong. The movie was released in 1999 and I regret I didnt see it earlier. I wont reveal the plot as it would spoil the fun. Best thing is to watch it when you know nothing about it. And then to get shocked.
The movie is a masterpiece. A revolution in cinema I must say.
No, its not just about fight . Men in Fight Club fighting with each other forms just 5% of the story. Theres lot more to it. As the IMDB website says about this movie How is it that the film received no nominations? Unfortunately, it had a mismatched ad campaign. The ads made it seem like the movie was about street boxing, instead of an intellectual and emotional ride through a mans psyche as he takes a strange path toward rebellion against consumer society. As a result, most who went to see it were disappointed, and those who would recognize its brilliance stayed far away from the movie theaters. This is one of the most underrated movies we know.
On technical aspect, its brilliant!! Another masterpiece from the director of Se7en . David Fincher has taken minute things into consideration. For example Brad Pitt is introduced to us for the first time on an escalator. But before that we see him for 5 times without even knowing it!! (Some of Fight Club fans would be surprised to read this).
Another fascinating thing about this movie is every time you see it, you enjoy it more than the previous time. Also everytime you discover a new thing about the movie.
Acting :-
Again. Brilliant .
Brad Pitt - Excellent. He has made Tyler Durden character so memorable! He is amazing.
Helena Bonham Carter - as Marla Singer has given decent performance.
Edward Norton - He is first rate. He is a heart of the movie. My personal favorite role till date! His narration in background is just too amazing. So is his acting. His name has not been revealed in the movie.
Why should you watch Fight Club?
Amazing story with lots of twists .
Edward Norton and Brad Pitts acting .
Edward Nortons background narration.
Its not just about Fight Club. Theres much more in it.
Excellent music by Dust Brothers.
Brilliant direction by David Fincher !!! Simply brilliant.
Quotes - Usually every movie has couple of famous quotes. In Fight Club, every sentence by Norton and Pitt is worth remembering. You have to listen to them to believe this.
Fight Club scores in almost every department!
Pitt - Whom would you fight? Any historical figure?
Norton - Id fight Gandhi.
Pitt - Good answer!
Norton - How about you?
Pitt - Lincoln. Big guy, big reach. Skinny guys fight till theyre burger.
