Filhaal, just watch it once.

Another young star kid makes a debut... this time its behind the camera.

The one thing that I like about this new generation in Bollywood is that they have tried to be very creative with every aspect of movie making.

Meghna (Boski) Gulzar is surely creative and the way this sensitive subject is handled is quite amazing. Considering that we had already seen a similar story without the emotions and mental trauma a mother faces, this one is quite amazing.

The story revolves around the relationship of two best friends Tabu (Rewa) and Sia (Sush). While Sush is very career minded and doesn’t want a marriage to come in the way of her progress, Filhaal, Tabu is easily convinced by Dhruv (Sanjay Suri)in one song. Sahil (Palash Sen) can do nothing but propose to Sia for marriage every 15-20 minutes in the movie.

Dhruv and Rewa get married and live happily in a wonderfully done up house. Full of colours of life. Rewa and Dhruv want a baby in a hurry and try every possible way.

One fine day, they learn that ’’they are pregnant’’ :), then there are celebrations. But then the dreaded moment comes, Rewa is not capable to hold the baby inside the womb for more than 5-6 months. They both are shattered. Sia comes to stay with Rewa.

But Rewa still wants a baby and is ready to die for. She gets pregnant again which is dangerous for her. Suddenly Sia comes up with a plan and decides that she will nurse Dhruv and Rewa’s baby inside her womb.

While many people are offended with a concept like this it is very true that surrogate motherhood is quite common in the west and happens here too!

Anyways, after this there are multi emotional turmoils which have been very realistic on screen. In fact the whole movie has a true tone and there has never been any exaggeration of either emotions or feelings.

As far as the performances are concerned the only misfit of the movie is Palash Sen. Everyone must have figured that out by now. I think that he’s better off singing than acting. Poor guy can’t emote out the scenes at all. Tabu is as usual, wonderful. But the two surprise packages are Sanjay Suri and Sushmita Sen. Every female who sees this movie will want a husband like him in the movie and a friend like Sushmita Sen.

As far as the music goes, there’s not much to write about. The music is fair the songs too. The title song is really good. The one bad thing is that the feel and mood of all the songs is the same. Was it deliberate or it just happened remains unknown. Or is it that everyone demanded to sing near the sea shore on top of the rocks and cliffs :).

In my opinion this movie deserves a look once for sure and I’m sure that with better subjects and interesting storylines Meghna Gulzar will come up with award winning films in the future.
