“Final Destination” – R

Finally, a scary movie with a real twist.

Alex (Devon Sawa) and his high school class are on their way to Paris when Alex has a premonition that the airplane explodes. He flips out and gets kicked off the plane with a few of his friends and a teacher (Kristin Cloke). The kids are mad when the airline tells them that they will have to take the next flight. Carter (Kerr Smith) gets into a fight with Alex and as they are rolling around on the airport floor, they see the plane they should have been on blow up right after take off.

After another premonition, Alex’s friend Tod (Chad Donella) dies. This starts the spooky path of who goes next. Each of the 7 people who missed the flight are scared for their lives and the FBI doesn’t know what to do or who to blame.

This movie didn’t have the normal path of a scary movie. There was no real suspect and the viewer doesn’t know why each event was happening or what would happen next. It kept you guessing right to the VERY end of the movie.

“Final Destination” was written by Jeffrey Reddick and Glen Morgan and directed by James Wong. The visions in the film and the action scenes were better than most horror movies. It made me jump a few times during the 98 minutes.

The cast was a talented group of young actors. I was disappointed that Brendan Fehr (from TV’s Roswell) was in this movie, but was on the plane to Paris! It was made up for by the large role that Kerr Smith had in the movie. Smith, from TV’s Dawson’s Creek, is quite capable of a lead role, but not in this one . . . he is second! I would recommend this movie to horror film fanatics or anyone else who loves a thrilling movie. The cast was more than capable and the story was completely interesting.

Enjoy!
