Finding Nemo........Finding yourself !!!!!

The movie Finding Nemo directed by Andrew Stanton is an entertaining film created in a characterized but animated environment. The movie though, contrary to general belief about animated pictures is not inherently limited to a specific genre for classification. Nor does it, according to the general conjecture cater to a specific audience categorized by its age group. But rather the movie provides an emotive source of enjoyment for all people regardless of their age. The movie essentially deals with 2 real life scenarios, both being of relative importance and comprising of situations which we constantly encounter. As I tell you more about the book, the scenarios discussed above will also come into the picture and hopefully will sway your preset conviction that animated movies can only be watched by kids.

In the preliminary scenes, we observe a couple of ‘clown fish’ named Marlin and Coral who reside in seaweeds present in the depths of the ocean. The female has laid lots of eggs to give birth to their offspring’s. But unfortunately, one day, a group of sharks attach their abode and knock Marlin unconscious and take away Coral and all the eggs escape one. Marlin, on becoming conscious laments over his loss and on finding one egg remaining decides to name him Nemo as it was a name which Coral wished to give their son. Marlin, then understandably becomes overprotective of his sole remaining son and this overprotective nature of his father starts to irritate the son Nemo who cannot fulfill or achieve his aims without his father continually interfering in his work in an effort to guide him not knowing that he was infact doing more harm then good.

One day though, Nemo visibly angry tries to prove that he can swim and reaches out to touch a fishing boat and is unfortunately trapped in the net pitched by the scuba-divers. The father desperately tries to save him but for the second time in his life, is knocked unconscious by the propellers of the boat. At this point of time the 2 scenarios mentioned previously by me emerges out of the darkened depths of the ocean. Nemo is then transferred to a fish-tank in a nearby dentist’s office where he begins to make some new friends. Soon to his dismay, he finds out that he is to be presented as a gift to the dentists daughter who has a history of accidentally killing fish. Faced with certain death and unfamiliar surroundings, he takes on a brave task of inserting a stone in the fan circulating the water so as to make the dentist compulsorily remove him and the other fishes out of the tank as the water would turn dirty. The fishes together also formulate a plan to enter the ocean, once they’re out of the water as they notice that the dentists office is just next to the ocean.

On the other hand, Marlin, disheartened by the loss of his son, begins to traverse the waters in search of his son but to no avail. Coincidentally, he comes across a pair of scuba-goggles which fell overboard from the boat in which his son Nemo was taken. He and a friend of his, Peach manage to read the inscription on the glasses and conclude that he had been taken to Sydney. The father then decides to undertake a journey there to save his son accompanied by his friend Peach. Together they face many obstacles and many unprecedented barriers but slowly but by virtue of their determination and faith manage to conquer them and make their way to Sydney. Enroute they also meet some turtles and their offspring’s. Marlin notices that the elder turtles left the younger turtles on their own accord to surmount the various obstacles they encountered and did not help them even a bit. Slowly but steadily, Marlin realized the folly of his ways and was determined to change and make it up to his son if he should ever meet him again. Nemo on the other hand, was gradually proving his fathers beliefs wrong. He overcame various hurdles along the way on the path to accomplish freedom and pulled off various stunts which even the older and more experienced fishes residing in the fish-tank could not.   Finally Marlin arrived in Sydney, and with help from a seagull who knew that Nemo was in a fish-tank in a dentist’s office was finally re-united with him. The story essentially is a touching personification of today’s world, where parents are highly overprotective of their children. In such situations, the children never get a chance to prove their latent capabilities and thus even their confidence suffers a huge setback. Correspondingly, the story also teaches us the lesson of never ever giving up faith in dark and hopeless situations but to try and adapt to unfavorable situations to try and achieve the pre-determined objective.

The movie also reminds us the importance of friends in our life, and that they are a constant source of inspiration for us so as to make us realize and attain our goals. Nemo in this story tries to motivate all the kids of this generation and successfully embeds the philosophy in their minds that ‘Nothing is impossible’. Even though the movie is an animation, the fishes carry out an important message by crying out to the world that fishing is an activity whose only sources of endorsement are the non-vegetarians. And if more and more people convert themselves to being vegetarians, much of the fishing activities would be forced to stop.

Finding Nemo is thus a story, which although being animated does a much better job of delivering important messages to the society, which sometimes are not successfully accomplished by even the so-called contemporary movies. It is thus a movie which signifies in all its essence that any problem, however hopeless it may seems, also inherently is hiding an answer by which the problem can be resolved. Being humorous in nature, while at the same also teaching kids to never under-estimate the value of parents and also teaching them to become adaptive to any situation, the movie is a true source of entertainment for them while also implanting in them values which in all due respect would never be out of place in any country in the world and will continue to be a source of inspiration for them throughout their whole life.

The movie will leave a feeling of satisfaction inside you and will leave you yearning and aching for more of these life’s problems expressed in such a simple fashion that the mind may dwell on these without actually suffering any mental problems or disorders normally associated while facing these types of problems. The audience, will at the end of the movie, compel their mind to forcibly be inclined towards such problems and think about them to suit their personal real life circumstances and will also enthuse them to achieve solutions to the problems in the same way Marlin and Nemo had.

Finally as a last word, Finding Nemo is not only a movie about finding Nemo but a movie which relates to finding the true essence of your soul and instigating resolutions which would provide a way out of any existent dilemma’s faced by the viewer who however does not feel that he is only a mere viewer
