Hail Fish!!!

F I S H   T A L K

The scent:

When you see the two names Disney and Pixar in the credits, what comes to mind? The outstanding ‘Monsters Inc’. If ‘Monsters’ – their earlier joint presentation – took your breath away, ‘Finding Nemo’ will breathe fresh air into your mundane life.

The fish-bone:

A pretty timid clown fish Marlin is very possessive of his only son Nemo, who has a slight disability (a ‘little’ fin), and is aghast to see him taken away by humans (the usual suspects). Nemo is taken to an aquarium at a Sydney dentist’s; where he meets a resourceful bunch of odd fish led by a veteran bent on escape. Here our distraught dad attempts the impossible – to travel unspoken miles of ocean, battling untold enemies, encountering life-altering situations – all to get his son back.

Marlin meets some colourful (what else) characters in his desperate bid. The unforgettable one is his irritatingly forgetful but absolutely sweet companion Dori. Dori’s character can teach many of us a lesson or two in life (key in the comments section when you realise what these lessons are).

Then there are the sharks who say “Fish are friends, not food”! The gentle take on Alcoholics Anonymous is a roar! The 150-year young sea-turtle, the pelican, the ‘me-me’ seagulls, all have their moments in this heady caper.

The taste:

‘Finding Nemo’ is a delightful movie, makes you laugh as you cry and makes you kind of cry as you laugh. I don’t know what it is about human nature; but we do enjoy seeing human-like nature among animals, don’t we? Look at the range of successful movies made with this theme – Ice Age, Lion King, the Babe series…

The special effects are top-of-the-line. Particularly, the colours used aptly reflect the mood of the scene. Music too is a major plus, adding to the huge feeling of AWE for the proceedings with superb sound effects.

Pssssst…

Watch out for ‘Knick-knack’ before the actual movie. In ‘Monsters’ it was a telegraph line with birds on it, and here it is a desperate Eskimo drooling over bikini babes in Miami beach!

The tail fin:

I hope all this fish-talk did not make you hungry for a bite of fish! We ended up at the nearest Mac after the movie, and found a little fellow (sitting next to me at the theatre) steadfastly vetoing an order for filet-o-fish! :-)

Something fishy?!

Watched this Disney & Pixar fare at Fame Adlabs. And who do we see buying popcorn and chocolate mousse outside? Well, the great one-film wonder Bhagyashree. [No, Kumar Gaurav is a two-film wonder now; remember Kaante?] Now, what was a movie like her doing at an erstwhile actress like that? (Or something of that sort…). Something fishy? Possibly!

Cheers all!
