Although at first it seemed a little slow, I realized it was me who was at fault. We are so sweeped away with special effects and hollywood computer generated action, that I feel as a whole, we have forgotten how to sit still and enjoy a movie for its true value and wisdom.
This is a wonderful movie, greater than my expectations. No special effects, no pyrotechnics, or computer generated anything. Just a good movie that, once you’ve settled down, takes you into those calmer places you’ve forgotten you have.
Settings and sound were excellent - screenplay, too. Johnny Depp is excellent - once again, a stellar performance that supports my feelings that he is one of the great actors of our age. Kate Winslet had a fine performance, and the children were phenomenal! Julie Christie was great as the mean grandmother - her age becomes her. You must see this movie!
