Rohinton Mistry is one of the most talented contemporary writers I have come across. The book was gripping from beginning to end. His style of writing is clear, interesting and thoroughly enjoyable. Though, the story he tells is probably one of the most depressing I have heard in awhile. He has the ability to mix the story to life with unique realistic characters each strongly contributing to a most poignant conclusion.
I would strongly recommend it to anyone looking for a good read. Also, to those of the younger generation (such as myself) who do not really know too much about the emergency times. The book does not profess to be a historically accurate representation of the period in the 70s however it does bring to light (in gruesome detail at times) the brutalities and realities (?) of a darker side of the Indian underbelly unknown to todays lost mall huggers.
My review has 153 words.
