Yeah, its a useful book. Unlike whats said in Ms.Rekhs review, this book not only helps us in our work atmosphere, but also helps us at home and with friends. I had a drastic change in my attitude and mind after I started implementing the idealogy the book teaches.
The book elucidates the power of choice in our life and how the most exciting experience and life might just be a few choices away from where we are right now. In a language within reach of everybody, Stephen.C.Lundin narrates the story of how ordinary fish-mongers bring life and enthusiasm to their work.
Then comes the fictious story of a manager who transforms a chronically diseased department of her office (nicknamed by other depts and customers as the Toxic energy dump) into an invigorated and exemplary process.
Let me not tell u more about the story and spoil the fun. In Lundind words-- The fish-mongers(at Seattle Pike Place Fish Market) were depicting and symbolising what work and life is all about. Fish-mongers--not organisational or MBA gurus. And their cash registers, not co-incidentally, ring like crazy!
This book, its sequels and the videos have brought drastic changes in many an organisations. The sequel Fish Tales- has reallife stories of four great companies which have implemented the fish philosophy and achieved great results (how and what). This can guide you if you wish to implement it. I was so impressed that I presented a paper and ppt on this at our colleges All India Acedemic Festival.

Getting new change in is easy. Maintaining it is quiet another thing. External Energy is necessary at the beginning of any large-scale initiative. To implement a new vision, you must first have every ones attention. But, external energy is only effective for short term. Eventually, this must be replaced by natural energy in order for the change to stick. This is the most important part of all. If you enter the field without analyzing and foreseeing this you will just be another Abhimanyu of Mahabharath.
To prevent this is the Fish Sticks!--another book with a fictional story combining all the experiences of Lundin and co. as witnesses to the change processes in orgnisations which implemented the Fish! philosophy.
I suggest you not to watch the videos till you read all the books. That is because videos restrict your imagination. Reading ignites it. While reading you imagine, think and anlayze. Your thought process gets going while reading. It improves your intellect. So, go for the videos only after reading the books and forming a picture in your mind. Enjoy the videos. The exuberance of the fish-mongers gets to u.
U will be enchanted, I bet!
