Fitoor has to be one of the most enchanting films to look at, in a long time. But this great looking film that captures the surreal beauty of Kashmir does not live up to the great expectations attached with it. The source material, the classic novel by Charles Dickens lends good matter to the story, but a lot is lost in adaptation. The script is the weakest part of Fitoor. The film is painfully slow in the first half. In more than an hour it just establishes the fact that Noor(Aditya Roy Kapur) and Firdaus(Katrina Kaif) make an unlikely couple.
The second half does pick up pace when Begum, Tabus character takes prominence. She brings in a gravitas and a sense of dramatic energy to the film. Aditya Roy Kapurs and Katrina Kaifs performances are solid, Tabu is spectacular but theyre never able to compensate for the flawed writing.
Amit Trivedis music and Anay Goswamys cinematography are the veritable strengths of this film. But these are frills in the technique of filmmaking. The real soul rests with the story of a film and thats where the loopholes lie. There are aspects where it strays from the source material and that makes the film underwhelming.
Director Abhishek Kapoor couldve done a lot more with this film. The love story between his leads should have been a lot more intense. But in the end the film turns out to be a shallow affair.
WOW AWSOME STORY I THINK ITS HIT.
