Though Indian film industry is full of talented leading ladies, there are few actresses who would make you hold your breath through their amazing and sizzling performances. Now here, I?m gonna tell you about five best actresses of their time and the reasons as why do I think they are the best. So welcome to club, hope you?ll like it.
Though in the beginning acting in movies was considered unsound act by the Indian society. Who would belive that at one point of time even courtesans denied to act in the movies. It was in the later period that people accepted acting as healthy profession. The first few actresses who left mark in Indian film industry are Suraiya, Sitara Devi, Kamini Kaushal, Nirupa Roy and so on so forth. But it was much later that actresses came into the glam world and got noticed properly.

Madhuri, Kajol & Rani
All these actresses belong to not so recent generation of actresses. Madhuri started her career with Abodh and has quite good number of hits under her belt. Kajol was at the epitome of her career when she got married with her co-star of Ishq and pyar to hona hi tha and took a long break and now we are hearing that she?s is working with Yash camp with Aamir Khan. Well Rani is very much in the industry and this year has been exceptionally lucky for her. On one hand Paheli went for Oscar, on the other hand she got lot of applause for Black.
Madhuri gave Tezaab, Beta, Hum Aapke Hain Kaun and Devdas, Kajol has the longest running movie under her belt ?DDLJ? and she also gave brilliant performance in Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Gham. And what to say about Rani, today she has become the Rani of all hearts with her husky voice and superb performance.

Hema Malini & Sri Devi: -
Can you believe both the actresses are Tamilian and at one point of time both of them ruled over Bollywood. When you look at these actresses you find with age they are getting more beautiful and their acting skills are getting sharpened with each day. Both are fantastic dancers, their dialogue delivery is fantastic (though Sri has squeaky voice, but her acting covers up everything). Both of them can do comedy, serious roles with the same efficiency. While Hema charmed her audience with Sholay (a talkative and chirpy character) Sita Geeta and Razia Sultana to mention a few, Sri got noticed in Sadma, Chandni, Chalbaaz, Lamhe. Sri was a great pair with Jitendra, Rishi Kapoor and Anil Kapoor.
These days Hema is coming in character roles with Baghbaan her last full-fledged movie while Sri came in Television serial long back and is taking care of her kids these days.

Mumtaz & Rekha: -
Who would have believed that Rekha will turn out to be an ultimate beauty after seeing her in Sohlwa Sawan and the same with Mumtaz. Though Rekha had a filmy background it was Mumtaz who had to struggle hard and people won?t believe that she even acted in C grade movies before coming to mainstream cinema. In many movies Mumtaz even acted as extra, but once she came on the screen, then there was no looking back. In the case of Rekha, her acting improved with her beauty in course of time and she gave movies like Umrao Jaan, Izajat, Khoobsurat, Jhoothi, Khoon Bhari Maang to mention a few.
While Mumtaz was well liked with Rajesh Khanna and they acted together in score of movies. Who can forget her style of dialogue delivery when she said ?anda rakh? six times in entirely different ways and fluently in movie Roti. She acted in movies like Khilona,
These days Rekha, still a beauty, is playing character roles while Mumtaz is completely out of filmdom, last heard is suffering from cancer.

Meena Kumari & Nutan
Second rank has been shared by two very talented actresses one is Meena Kumari and other is Nutan. While Nutan was the first actress to wear swimming costume in movies Meena Kumari came into notice with her emotional portrayal of characters. Nutan is known for movies like Bandini, Anari, on the other hand Meena Kumari was well liked in movies like Dil apna aur preet parayee, Bahu begum, Pakeezah. In the middle of her career Meena Kumari got married to Kamal Amrohi and then the unfortunate separation led her to excessive drinking eventually ending in her untimely death. Nutan made a comeback with movies like main tulsi tere aangan ki and no sooner she realized that her time is over she hopped to character roles, a wise decision indeed and acted in movies like Naam, Karma to mention a few.
No doubt, both these actresses did brilliantly in their lifetime and even today they have a long chain of fans.

Madhubala
Who can deny the first place to this actress. She was the perfect combination of beauty and talent. Who can forget her haunting presence in MAHAL, then her ravishing performance in CHALTI KA NAAM GADI and then finally MUGHAL-E-AZAM that immortalized her as an actress. She was considered a hot delight in movies and no soon filmmakers realized that Indian public had special fondness for this charming lady that all of a sudden she became ultimate favourite of all directors and casting team.
Though she worked with most of the actors of her epoch, but she was well liked with evergreen Dev Anand and legendary Kishore Kumar. She was at the zenith, when her untimely death shattered the dreams of all her fans. Though she is not around, even today actresses feel at the top of the world when they are compared with her. Though she became living legend during her lifetime only, her memories and skills in the field of acting still haunts people of tinsel town.
