Bollywood for 1999!

Choosing the best Hindi movies of 1999 seemed to be easier as there were only a few of them.....

1) SARFAROASH

Producer: John Matthew Matthan

Director: John Matthew Matthan

Music: Jatin Lalit

Starring: Naseeruddin Shah, Aamir Khan, Sonali Bendre, Mukesh Rishi, Akash Khurana etc

Assistant Chief of Police, Ajay Singh Rathod (Aamir Khan), comes from a middle- class family whose lives have been hit by a terrorist attack. In serving on the Crime Branch, Ajay hopes to avenge the wrong against his family; he views all criminals as the same and wants all caught. He is asked to catch a band of hidden criminals smuggling arms into the country from Pakistan. With the help of Salim (Mukesh Rishi), Ajay goes on the hunt for them. Aamir Khan fits in the role really well and Sonali Bendre has made her role worth mentioning with some great acting as well as some revealing. Nasseruddin Shah is good as usual. Mukesh Rishi has given great performance and the songs of the movie adds to the beauty.

2) KACHCHE DAAGE

Producer : Kumar S. Torani, Ramesh S. Taurani

Director : Milan Luthria

Music: Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan

Starring: Ajay Devgan, Saif Ali Khan, Manisha Koirala, Namrata Shirodkar, Maya Alagh etc

A nice action movie. The illegitimate, Muslim, thief son Afthab (Ajay Devgan) and the legitimate, Hindu, executive son Dhananjay (Saif Ali Khan) are introduced to each other by their father just before his death. Enter a group of terrorists who use them to fulfill their needs. The brothers get framed for a series of crimes and spend the majority of the film running from the police. They couldn’t stand each other when they first saw, but they slows develops respect for each other. Manisha Koirala and Namrata Shirodhkar has done some good job as their lovers and Ajay Devgan and Saif Ali Khan fits into the action role really well.

3) HOGI PYAR KI JEET

Producer: Anil Sharma

Director: P. Vasu

Music: Anand Milind

Starring: Ajay Devgan, Neha, Arshad Warsi, Mayuri etc

Neha’s second film after Kareeb which was a great flop. She seems to have left most of her clothes there. The story is too big! Thakur Gajendra Singh (Mohan Joshi), murders both farmer, Surjit (Anil Dhawan), and his wife, and seizes their property. Surjit’s sister, Shanti (Ketki Dave), vow to avenge their murders. Ajay Devgan and Arshad Warsi plays the roles of the two sons of the farmer while Neha and Mayuri are the thakur’s niece and daughter who seemed to be spending lots of money for powder and lipstick. There are some colourful songs in the movie as the story progresses. The movie is not the best, but still is worth watching, one of those less good ones among the idiotic movies of 1999.

4) HUM DIL DE CHUKE SANAM

Producer: Sanjay Leela Bhansali

Director: Sanjay Leela Bhansali

Music: Ismail Darbar

Starring: Salman Khan, Ajay Devgan, Aishwarya Rai

Nandini (Aishwarya Rai) is the daughter of classical singer Darbar (Vikram Gokhale). Sameer (Salman Khan) is half-Indian settled in Italy who comes to his homeland to learn music from Nandini’s father and falls in love with Nandini. Towards the end of the first-half enters Vanraj (Ajay Devgan), a family associate of Darbar marries Nandini while Sameer is in Italy. Vanraj, finidng the fact that Nandini loves Sameer, he takes her to Italy and searches for him. But after finidng him, Nandini recognizes Vanraj’s love and bids Sameer good bye and goes with Vanraj. The story didn’t seem very interesting for me. But the crew performance as well as the songs seemed better than ever. Salman Khan some times seems like a fool, but still did his part well. Ajay Devgan and Aishwarya Rai are just amazing in the movie. The movie seemed to have a bit more emptions than necessary, but still adjustable.

5) BIWI NO:1

Producer : Vashu Bhagnani

Director :David Dhawan

Music: Anu Malik

Starring: Salman Khan, Anil Kapoor, Karisma Kapoor, Sushmita Sen, Tabu, Himani Shivpuri etc

Prem (Salman Khan) and Pooja (Karisma Kapoor) are leading married life, complete with two kids and Mother (Himani Shivpuri). Then Roopali (Sushmita Sen) enters Prem’s life.   She becomes his advertising agency’s exclusive model. He just disappears from his house and ends up with Roopali. With their best friend Lakhan (Anil Kapoor), Pooja finally makes her husband know about his mistake and makes him return home after a series of hardwork. Salman Khan and Karishma Kapoor didn’t impress me much, but Anil Kapoor and Tabu gave some good performances as well as Susmita Sen. The songs are not bad and the story is adjustable.
