2000 was the year when I saw most Hindi movies. Some of them were worth mentioning.....
1) KAHO NAA PYAR HAI
Producer: Rakesh Roshan
Director: Rakesh Roshan
Music: Rajesh Roshan
Starring: Hritik Roshan, Amisha Patel, Anupam Kher, Ashish Vidyarthi, Mohnish Behl etc
Both Hritik Roshan and Amisha Patel cant have any better situation than this to make their debut. The film has romance, action, and also a small bit of suspense which are required for a hit movie. Struggling singer Rohit (Hrithik Roshan) and Sonia (Amisha Patel) fall in love to cause problems for Saxena (Anupam Kher), Sonias rich father. Trouble ensues when Rohit witnesses two corrupt police officers (Ashish Vidyarthi and Mohnish Behl) murder the police commissioner after he finds out about their illegal drug connections. The villains kill Rohit and Sonia is left alone with memories of him. She goes to New Zealand where she meets a young man named Raj (Hrithik again), who looks just like the dead Rohit (The second Hritik Roshan!). Both return to India to find the killers. Finally the leader of the drug mafia is found to be an unexpected fellow. Quite interesting to watch along with some great songs in it.....
2) MOHABBATEIN
Producer: Yash Chopra
Director: Aditya Chopra
Music: Jatin Lalit
Starring: Amitabh Bachchan, Shahrukh Khan, Aishwarya Rai, Uday Chopra, Jimmy Shergill, Jugal Hansraj, Shamita Shetty, Kim Sharma, Preeti Jhangiani, Anupam Kher etc
The film shows the battle between two men ie between love and hate. Amitabh Bachchan is Narayan Shankar, the headmaster of a prestigious university, a stern, strict old man who believes in tradition and discipline, not love. Fun and games are not part of the university. Shahrukh Khan is Raj Aryan, a music teacher. Three boys, Vicky, Sameer, and Karan (Uday Chopra, Jugal Hansraj, and Jimmy Shergill) fall in love with Ishika, Sanjana, and Kiran (Shamita Shetty, Kim Sharma, and Preeti Jhangiani) as Shankar disapproves. Raj Aryan encourages the young lovers. Raj was previously Shankar’s student, whose college career came to an abrupt end after his love with Shankar’s daughter Megha (Aishwarya Rai). Now he has returned to teach the principal the importance of love. The songs of the movie are beautiful as well as thge overall crew performance. The only problem is that the movie is too long.
3) HERA PHERI
Producer: A.G. Nadiadwala
Director : Priyadarshan
Music: Anu Malik
Starring: Akshay Kumar, Sunil Shetty, Tabu, Paresh Rawal, Glushan Grover, and Namratha Shirodkar
The remake of the super hit Malayalam movie Ramji Ravo speaking did do well at the box office and was one of the best remakes ever. The film revolves around Raju (Akshay Kumar), Shyam (Sunil Shetty), Babu Rao (Paresh Rawal), and Anu (Tabu), four people in need of some money. Shyam and Raju both stay with Babu Rao. A gangster Kabira (Gulshan Grover) kidnaps the grandson of a wealthy businessman and contacts their residence (its a wrong number). The three thinks about getting some money for themselves by using the opportunity. Namrata Shirodhkar appears in a guest role. The cast has been good. The movie has some weak spots as well as some strong ones. The songs are at an average level. I still like the Malayalam version better.
4) JOSH
Producer: Venus Records & Tapes
Director: Mansoor Khan
Starring: Shahrukh Khan, Sharad Kapoor, Chandrachur Singh, Aishwarya Rai etc
Music: Anu Malik
The movie revolves around twins Max (Shahrukh Khan) and Shirley (Aishwarya Rai), their brother-sister relationship in west side of Goa. The east side comprises Prakash (Sharad Kapoor) and Rahul (Chandrachur Singh). Prakash and Max head rival street gangs. Rahul and Shirley love each other as much as the hatred between their brothers. Priya Gill plays the lover of Max. The story has an unexpected end (not for all). The fouth movie directed by Mansoor Khan after Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak, Jo Jeeta Wohi Sikandar and Akele Hum Akele Tum didnt disappoint the viewers. A great musical extravaganca is what the movie is. Apun bola, Sailare, Hum to dil se haare - all has kept high standards just like the actors and actresses of the movie.....
5) BICHOO
Producer : Narinder Dhanoa
Director: Guddu Dhanoa
Music: Anand Raaj Anand
Starring: Bobby Deol, Rani Mukherjee, Ashish Vidyarathi etc
Jeeva (Bobby Deol) is a young man out for revenge as his family has burnt themselves to death due to humiliation as a result of him loving a rich girl. He becomes a contract killer and lives in an apartment. In the next apartment lives a girl who is also named Kiran (Rani Mukherjee) with her father, step mother, and step sister who doesnt care for her. She is loved by her brother only. Her father cheats A.C.P. Devraj who is really a drug mafia don (Ashish Vidyathi) and they kill the entire family except Kiran who watches them die from nearby apartment. She decides to avenge her brothers death with the help of Jeeva. The members of drug mafia are in pursuit of the girl as they want to wipe out the only eye witness. Bobby Deol has done his stone like character well. Rani Mukherji excels as the always tensed, highly talkative girl. Ashish Vidhyarthi shows the real characteristics of a cruel, almost crazy don.....
I dont know anyone who considers these movies not worth seeing. There is no one among my friends who havent seen Kaho Naa Pyar Hai and Mohabbatein more than once. Bichoo is considered one of the best action movies and Josh is famous for its songs and the different theme. Any one who have seen the Malayalam version cant dare to miss Hera Pheri. I dont believe that any one will hate these movies as I dont know any. I am writing this review as I have met lots of people who liked these movies. Hope you all have the same opinion. If some of you differ in the opinion, please give me suggestions about the movies I should include in the list.....
