1.Black-‘Black’ is visually striking and emotionally moving. Although the general look of the movie is dark, there is not a single sequence in the film that depresses you. Some may find the movie a bit slow in the second half, but the denouement of the story(which is quite realistic and not as grandiose as some might expect) absolves the movie of its flaws. There are moments in the film(like when Michelle learns to say ‘ma’) that move you deeply.
‘Black’ is a testimony to the acting talent of Mr Bachchan and Rani Mukherjee.Playing a girl who cannot see, hear and speak is no easy feat. But Rani plays her character with such finesse that she literally brings out the inner voices of Michelle with her facial expressions, her flat-footed walk, her body language and her glazed looks. As for Mr Bachchan’s performance, it truly ought to be seen than written about.
2.Taare Zameen Par-This film just touched my heart. It conveys the message that everyone in this world is special. It was also an eye opener to people in the east who are ignorant towards such matters.
The message that the story tries to convey is already known to us, but most of us just remain ignorant to it. Aamir Khan, the director, has handled the delicate theme with dexterity and precision. He has not just succeeded in making every child a hero but actually helped us see a child in ourselves.
Just like no man is perfect no matter what position he commands in the society, every child with both their ability and inabilities is special and talented in their own way. The movie isn’t just about a child suffering from dyslexia and his challenges, it’s also about how parents get carried away by today’s competitive world and fail to understand their child’s dreams and nurture their inborn talents. This is a must watch for everyone.
3.Nishabd- I just loved the concept of this movie. This movie tells us that no person in this world is too old or too young to be each others lover. And that love, can never be bound by age.
‘Nishabd’, with all its strength and shortcomings, is a piece of quality cinema that talks openly and unabashedly about things and emotions that many would prefer to be swept under the carpet.
‘Nishabd’ has a soul, and a soul that cannot be spelt(pun intended). It has to be seen with an open frame of mind.Only then can one appreciate a film like ‘Nishabd’, despite some of its technical flaws.Bodies age, feelings don’t. ‘Nishabd’ is the story of a 60-year-old photographer(Amitabh Bachchan) who gets attracted to an 18-year-old girl(Jiah Khan) who is a friend of his daughter. It is the story of mutual love between two people with a huge age gap between them. It is a moving tale of a man torn between his emotions and rationality, between his heart and his mind.
The man listens to his heart, concedes to the girl that he is in love with her.He admits to his wife(Revathy) that he has developed feelings for a girl the age of his daughter. And by doing so he loses the respect of his wife and his daughter. This is a must watch for those who feel that a person is "too old" to love.
4.Devdas-A tale of passionate lovers.Devdas pleases the eye and provides more than adequate satisfaction for those highly anticipating it. It is certainly a theatrical experience, at the very least, as that is the only way you can take in the grand scale on which it has been mounted. The movie is filled with colors and amazing sets and costumes.
Add some excellent performances, fantastic dialogues by Prakash Kapadia, great music and well choreographed dances and you have a film which may not live up to unnecessarily towering expectations but almost makes it there. Bhansali´s Devdas is a visual masterpiece with a fresh treatment of a tragic love story.
