I cannot say any better

For many people in Bollywood 2002 may have spelled disaster, with the lack of any successful films, any one film that made a daring hit in the Box Office or the People. Many say it is an forgettable year, but for me it is not all gloom. The striking aspect of the year was there were innovations.A majority of the films tried upon a new line of story, or made a better concerned effort in film-making, and this promises much for the future. It is my belief that these failures would be stepping stones to Success in 2003 and in coming years.

To select five films out of the lot was indeed a daunting task.Though the films tried new , there were lot of cons in each movie, and the selection of best five was really hard.I had no problem in choosing the Top Three.I could pick the film number four after some deliberations. But I couldnt pick one film to finish as No.5.

Films Aankhen, Mitr My Friend, Bend it Like Beckham, Humraaz would all qualify for the 5th position, as all were equally average.

The fourth film would be Kaante, a significant film that depicts the rise in quality of Indian Cinema. I have always believed in making Indian films, the Indian way and not aping Hollywood movies. But Kaante was a well modulated ape.Though there are many aprrehensions against the film, I would opt for the film as a top item.

DEVDAS should go in for the sheer value and richness of the film.A common place story of Devdas was lifted to great elevation with the super star cast, rich sets, attentive detailing and dedicated direction. The homours are to be equally shared to the director, art director and the producer Bharat Shah who paid the scant regard to economy.

SAATHIYA came in as a breath of fresh air, and I believe that the truthful Maniratnam story would find favour of youthful audience worldwide. All Kudos to Shaadi Ali for inducing freshness throughout with the rocking pair of Vivek and Rani, supported by Rehman and the crew.

The top slot is Anyones Guess.Research and Bollywood which seemed as far as Indian Cricket Team and consistency really came as together as Sidhus commentary and humour. The Legend of Bhagat Singh was totally flawless, and it is indeed a long time we have seen such a potent film.

To convince you more of the choices, I would empoly(taking permission for granted), the views of my good friends in MS on these four films.I CANNOT SAY ANY BETTER

4.KAANTE

Novel both technically and in content, Kaante is certainly like no other Hindi movie made till date. It is a relief to see Hindi moviemakers experimenting and breaking away from formula. Kaante, with all its flaws deserves kudos for at least that. It definitely works for those who aren’t exposed to Hollywood and a genuine novelty for anyone unaware of Reservoir Dogs.

3.DEVDAS

Each frame of the movie, and the progression of scenes shows the effort and attention to detail that must have gone into the making of this movie. The sets, colours, costumes, the pretty heroines, the overall grandeur makes Devdas A visual treat

2.SAATHIYA

Saathiya refuses to be just another movie. It refuses not to make an impact. It refuses to be insensate.Saathiya proves an important point - Indian cinema is not full of dimwitted wiseacres who care just about the cash registers clicking, it consists of people who believe in realism and who believe that the reel can portray the real.It is surprising how a simple, down-to-earth movie like Saathiya can make such a significant point.

1.THE LEGEND OF BHAGAT SINGH

Had the movie been released shortly after Bhagat Singh’s hanging, it would have easily galvanized the whole country and led to a renewed fight which could have resulted in us winning our freedom a good two decades earlier than what we did – that’s the ultimate tribute I can pay this movie

That is it.Bye Bye 2002
