5 English love-songs from a layman! :)

I still remember writing my 20 Best Hindi Love songs review. It was a great experience to remember all the songs you know & then separate that can be categorized as’Love Songs’. Selecting 5 Best should not be a problem.lets see!

Let me first admit that my innings wrt western music started in 98 which was a little late & I soon came to know what I was missing all these years. I did make some progress after that. Again, I must admit that I am not the’English Love Songs’ sort guy. I listen mostly to hard-rock & also metal.(Checkout my 20 best english songs & Metallica review). So choosing 5 best’English’ love songs didn’t turn out to be that difficult a task.

I noted down 5 songs & started checking reviews on MS if I missed a great that song that I knew. But again, most of the songs in the top ranked reviews have not been played at my house!:) So here is my choice, might not be the best, classic etc but hey, it is my choice.!:)

Every Breath you take, Every move you make.I’ll be watching you by STING

-

Oh can’t you see you belong to me. Initially Sting wanted to show a passionate lover where the girl has broken up with him or has not responded to him & hence the words like these. As if the lover is stalking the lady of his dreams etc. Sting also had another angle(per him, correct me if wrong) of his break-up with his first wife & hence the song. Later, the masses loved this song for its’romantic with devotion’ sort of meaning & this song became the most demanded song on the radio along with Hotel California.

Don’t wanna miss a thing

-

Don’t wanna close my eyes, don’t wanna fall asleep’cos I miss you babe & don’t wanna miss a thing. Tyler’s different type of voice full of intensity highlights this song. It is hard to believe his age from his voice. I also heard this song/tune when I took the Aerosmith’s scary-ride in Island of Adventure in Disneyland. It was quite an experience going thru the high-G exposure & at the same Aerosmith’s tune in full swing.

Everything I do, I do it for you by Bryan Adams

-

This guy must be more popular in Indian metros than anywhere else in the world. Indian audience hasn’t yet matured to different types of western music & loves the rock/pop albums more. The bands which are known for their popularity among girls(cute etc):) are equally popular in India’s youth regardless of gender. I got my orientation to western music while in USA & hence even if I liked these boy-band songs at times I never developed liking for them as such. I leaned equally towards Pop & Metal(selective bands) or you could say that I liked hard-rock/metal bands more than others.

This song is one of the most popular songs of all times. Bryan’s distinct voice makes it a memorable one. It has the urge/need from the partner to reciprocate & also demonstrates the intensity of love very well.

She’s always a woman to me

-

Not sure if this exactly qualifies to be a love song but it always appeals to my heart. The lyrics amaze me & so does Billy Joel’s voice. The music is minimal & that increases the impact of this song. Hear it in the calm & quiet night & you shall be blessed! Ooh.& she never gives in & she never gives out she just changes her mind The lines like these again underscore the devotion this person has for their lover: she careless cuts & laugh while you bleed.but she’s always a woman to me. Checkout this one too She’ll bring out the best & the worst you can bem blame it all on yourself but she’s always a woman to me.

Simply don’t know if this is a love song but as I said it’s always a love-song for me!:-)

Careless Whispers

I never liked this guy as he was/is always in news for all sort of wrong reasons. Maybe its his personal stuff but still. This one from WHAM is a masterpiece though. I was advised to buy a few friendly CDs when I started listening western music to get properly inducted & this CD from WHAM was on the list along with MJ’s 2 & also Crossroad by Bon Jovi. This song has a very quiet start & then it picks up & maintains the same rhythm throughout.

I feel so unsure as I take your hand and lead you to the dance floor.

As the music dies.something in your eyes calls to mind the silver screen

And all its sad good-byes.

I?m never gonna dance again.guilty feet have got no rhythm

Though it?s easy to pretend.I know you’re not a fool.

Some other songs I remembered which could also make it to the list very easily & deserve a mention:’I Will Always Love You’ by Whitney Houston & also’My heart will go on’ from Titanic: Celine Dion.

Thanks for reading layman’s list of love songs. Please do rate it & if time permits do leave a comment too. It was a welcome change from all my Shammi Kapoor movie reviews & also Bike/Car reviews!:)
