Hi everyone, m here with my revu on 5 Best Movies of Amol Palekar.. I like Amol Palekars movie, specially the ones ive listed... He is a brilliant actor, and his simplicity with humor is the best in his movies.
Before writing about my fav. movies played by Amol Palekar, lets have short intro of this gr8 actor:-
Amol Palekar is a well known actor of the 70s & later director of notable Indian movies. Born on 24th of November 1944 in Bombay. He became a director with the Marathi film Aakriet. In 1974 he was cast as an actor by Basu Chatterjee in Rajnigandha, which lead to many parts in middle-class comedies. He has also has proved his capabilities as a director as his movie Paheli was Indias official entry in the race for Best Foreign Film at the 2006 Oscar. The movie, however, did not make it to the final nominations.
Now let’s move to my list of “5 best movies of Amol Palekar” in which he has acted…
- Golmaal (1979) :- This movie is one of the best comedy movie till date. Directed by Hrishikesh Mukherjee, who is well known for his superb movies. His comic genius sparkles in this movie. Star-cast: Amol Palekar, Bindiya Goswami, Utpal Datt, David, Dina Pathak, Deven Verma, Keshto Mukherjee, Shobha Khote & Om Prakash. Spl. appear by Amitabh Bachchan
This movie is all about a young man Ram Prasad Sharma (Amol Palekar) looking for a job. He comes to know about a job at Urmila Trading Corporation owned by Bhavani Shankar (Utpal Dutt). His saying is that the youth shuld have nothing extra interest in activities like sports or music but only shuld concentrate on the goal related to their job. He himself with mustache wants his employ to be a typical mustached man. Ram Prsd gets ready for the job with artificial mustache, oily hair & with the traditional personality. Bhavani gets impressed with him & gives him the job.
However, trouble begins when he has to lie to his boss about having a twin brother, Laxman Prasad , when his boss spots him enjoyed a football match. Things take a whacky turn when Bhavanis daughter (Bindiya Goswami) falls in love with the clean-shaven Laxman & insists on marrying him. Bhavani resists & instead insists her to marry Ramprasad. A fake mother (Dina Pathak) & a hilarious chase at the end are the other enjoyable parts of this rip-roaring comedy.
A roller-coaster of fun & laughter is the movie Golmaal. Memorable songs include the super hit Kishore Kumar number Aanewala Pal Jaanewala Hai. Title song of this movie “Golmaal Hai Bhai Sab Golmaal Hai” is nice one & enjoyable song that goes well with the movie.
- Choti Si Baat (1975) : - Heart-winning classic from Basu Chatterji, Chhoti Si Baat has never faded in its sweet, funny magic. Star-cast: Amol Palekar, Vidhya Sinha, Asrani, Ashok Kumar, A.K.Hangal, etc.
The story is about Arun (Amol Palekar), a simple young office-goer meets Prabha (Vidhya Sinha) another office-goer, every day at a bus stop & falls in love with her. He begins to follow her to her office & her home but not having the courage or know how to express his love. Somehow a day comes when Arun manages to talk to her but then comes Nagesh (Asrani), another young-man, a colleague in Prabhas office, who with his smartness & uninhibited behaviour proves to be a blockade to Aruns plans. Aruns love for Prabha is too strong to be given away. He searches ways & means to get Prabha. In his efforts he seeks the help of Colonel J.N.W. Singh (Ashok Kumar) who tackles the battle of love with meticulous planning. He instills in Arun a new self confidence & teaches him the strategies of waging love. Arun returns to Bombay, a new man ready to face anything. How he defeats his adversary Nagesh & gets the girl forms the rest of the story.
Salil Chowdhurys enchanting melodies woven around some of Yogeshs best https://lyrics. Jaaneman Jaaneman & Na Jaane Kyon remain two of the evergreen hits from this film.
- Naram Garam (1981) : - This is another simple & sweet movie by Hrishikesh Mukherjee. Star-cast:- Amol Palekar, Utpal Dutt, A.K. Hangal, Swaroop Sampat, Shatrughan Sinha. Amol Palekar is shown simple as in the movie Golmaal & screen name is same of that movie “RamPrasad” & what more u can have better than the combination of Amol Palekar & Utpal Dutt.
The story revolves around an old man Master Ji (A.K.Hangal), in search of a home after his house is repossessed by the village money-lender, & his young daughter, Kusum (Swaroop Sampat). Ramprasad (Amol Palekar) is a poor young man in the employ, a lawyer of Bhavani Shankar (Utpal Dutt), yes another Golmaal…. :) He is a superstitious, middle aged widower, having a daughter & a younger brother Babua (Shatrughan Sinha). Rampsd is assigned the responsibility of getting the house back that is re-occupied by Master ji & Kusum. When this comes to the knowledge of the estate manager, Gajanan Babu, he arrives furious & determined to throw them out. However, he succumbs to the charms of Kusum & instead of ousting the old man & his daughter, presents a proposal of marriage. Horrified, Kusum & Rampsd turn to Babua for help. He, in turn, is captivated by Kusums beauty & falls for her. Then Rampsd turns to Bhavani, but he, too, declares he wants to marry Kusum. So u can see every man is falling in love with Kusum but she loves RamPsd & so do he, but he is a poor chap, but he is the hero & finally he gets the girl. The movie is very simple which has lots of drama.
- Baaton Baaton Mein (1979) :- This film has a lovely & simple story with Star-cast: Amol Palekar, Tina Munim, Leela Mishra, Tun Tun, Manohar.
In Bombay (now Mumbai) the local trains carry million people to work & back home daily. Tony (Amol Palekar), a young commercial artist, travels by the local train daily, similarly Nancy Pereira (Tina Munim) a young office goer & her Uncle (David) also travel daily by local train. One day Tony meets Nancy in the train. Nancy had a sad past. She was in love with one of her office colleagues who ditched her. Nancy decides to do away with any boy in her life in future. Her mother (Pearl Padamsee) & uncle are worried about her. Mother is very keen to see her daughter married. Her Uncle finds Tony an ideal boy for Nancy, Tony is invited to Nancys home, Tony falls in love with Nancy, Nancys mother also likes Tony. Tony has a dominating mother who had her own ideas about Tony & doesn’t like Nancy for her son. In spite of the likes & hates of both Nancy’s & Tony’s families they get together at the end. This is a very sweet movie & Amol Palekar yet with his simplicity makes this movie worth-watching.
Some of the memorable songs in this movie are: “Suniye, kahiye, kehte sunte, baton baton mein pyaar ho jayeega”, “Na bole tum na maine kuch kaha”, “Uthe sabke kadam tara rum pump um”…
