Abhijeets voice is very deep, soft and sensual. However, he has a restricted range which means that he is unbeatable when it comes to romantic and mushy numbers but I can’t see him rocking and rolling. No way ! That is why we need the Shaans and Kay Kays too.
However, the songs which he has rendered in own distinctive style are very close to my heart. He is at his best when he is singing for Shahrukh Khan, just like Kishore Kumar was for Rajesh Khanna and Amit Kumar for Kumar Gaurav. Here is my list of five favourite songs of Abhijeet, out of which three are from ‘Yes Boss’ :
1. Chaand taare tod laaoon (Yes Boss)
Shahrukh in ‘Yes Boss’ dreams on and on… about his aspirations and ambitions. I love his innocently selfish attitude that comes across with this number. Life is just a simple need to fulfill whatever his heart tells him to. How outrageously cute ! I love this song because I am hopelessly self centered too.
2. Main koi aisa geet gaaoon (Yes Boss)
This was a perfect song with respect to the music and the picturization. A fresh and innocent Juhi was literally being worshipped by the very much in love Shahrukh. As he sings about getting the world, the colors and the scents at his highness’ feet, she looks very, very flattered and shakes her head and smiles prettily.
3. Tumhe jo maine dekha (Main Hoon Na)
Again a besotted Shahrukh sings merrily as his heart goes flip-flop when he sets his eyes on Ms. Sensual Sen. I just loved this song when it burst on the screen in a riot of colors. It has such an uplifting mood and I often begin my day with this song at full volume to get dancing.
4. Mere khayalon ki malika (Josh)
Soft music. Tender feelings. The queen of your heart just walks in, smelling like a rose. And you just stand there and say goodbye to as your heart. This song showcased Aishwarya’s beauty and charisma in the most poetic and romantic manner.
I had made this mistake of inserting Ek din aap humko from Yes Boss which has been sung by Kumar Sanu. Thank you, Milind for reminding me of my error. I have removed that song and instead replaced it with Chalte Chalte *:
5. Chalte Chalte (Chalte Chalte) {in correction }
Chalte Chalte is a very sad, poignant song about a relationship which was rocking and is now on the rocks (A statement made by my dearest friend who I cant name but if he reads this, he will understand). It tugs at your heartstrings as the two (ex) lovers wonder where things had gone wrong.
