What a goddess-like voice she has!

Please don’t tell me I can’t count. I can, it’s just that I think five songs for a singer like Shreya is much too less. When Shreya first cam into Bollywood I didn’t take much notice of her. Then she began singing songs like crazy and I got to really like her voice a lot. Now people are saying she could be the next Lata Mangeshkar. And I don’t disagree. Her voice is sweet and full of innocence. She has certainly achieved a lot at a rather young age!

DEVDAS

I think Devdas was Shreya’s major breakthrough. It was when every one started taking notice of this singer and saying what talent she had. My favourite song of Shreya’s in this album is Silsila Yeh Chahat Ka. There is also Bairi Piya and of course * Hey Dola Re*. Silsila yeh chahat ka happens when the girl in the movie, played by Aish learns her beloved is coming back. It is a beautiful song, with excellent portrayal by Aish and an even more excellent performance by Shreya. I would say she is at her best in this song if it wasn’t for Bairi Piya. As a matter of fact I can’t decide which one she sounds better in. Hey Dola Re is something more on the Classical dance side, with the chimes of the ghunghroos and bracelets and etc. Excellent dancing by Aish and Madhuri. I must say, however, Shreya sounds great as usual but her voice is overshadowed by the voice of Kavita Krishnamurthy’s and does not sound the way she does in her other songs! But she does an excellent job in spite of being overshadowed by Kavita!

PIYU BOLE(Parineeta)

There was some conflict in my mind as to who was better at this song out of the two singers. Finally I decided that both singers did a great job at this song. Sonu sounds really sweet but even sweeter is Shreya’s voice which at the same time is full of the innocence of a young child looking at you when he/she does something wrong and is begging forgiveness!  Piyu Bole is a really sweet, slow, romantic selection that puts you into a trance or dreaming of love and romance.

At first her voice is soft, shaky but then she gains confidence, her voice grows and with the help of Sonu, she is able to paint a beautiful picture of love and romance!

KANGNA RE(Paheli)

In this song, we see the talent and versatility of Shreya. Not only can she sing the slow sweet songs or the fast, peppy disco tracks but she can sing the Classical songs too. She is accompanied by Sonu, but for once I have to hand it to Shreya and not Sonu! Shreya dominates this song with her sweet, innocent voice! No one else could have done a better job!

AGAR TUM MIL JAO(Zeher)

I would say this is her best song but you never know what she could come with in future! Normally I would have gone for the Udit Narayan version of this song, but I heard Shreya’s version and my gosh it was fantastic, much better than Udit’s version! It’s amazing what one different voice could do! At that moment, when I heard it, it was like the most amazing thing I’d ever heard!

MAINE CHUN LIYA(Dil Maange More)

Even though she is accompanied by Udit Narayan, Shreya has managed to come out on top! Udit sounds great but Shreya steals this song with her sweet voice! Listening to Shreya’s voice in this song, you just can’t help thinking this song definitely belongs to Shreya. Udit does his best to sound great and he does, but Shreya sounds better and sweeter!

HUM TUMKO(Garv)

Once again, we listen to Shreya and Udit battle it out for the better voice and once again, Shreya comes out on top! Her voice is sweeter than ever and full of childhood innocence. This is definitely Shreya’s song, there is no doubt about that!

SHIKDUM(Dhoom)

Cute voice for a cute song! Of course I’m talking about Shreya. Her voice as usual is sweet and innocent. Not only that but she does sound cute as well! My favorite part of this song is at the end: of course Shreya’s “koi nahi hai kamre mein kya  hasi mila hai pal, aad shararat  karne do, kaam bathi karenge kal.” I think she sounds sweetest there!

GORE GORE(Main Hoon Naa)

What a sweet, innocent voice! Even thought she is singing next to Sunidhi Chauhan, Shreya comes out on top! Her voice is the very picture of innocence and sweetness!

And yes, Shreya shows off her talent and versatility once more by singing a fast peppy disco number!

MUJHE TUMSE MOHABBAT HAI(Tumsa Nahi Dekha)

I can’t believe I nearly forgot this song and this album. Shreya totally dominated this album with tracks like Bheed Mein, Who Humse Kahfan Hai, etc. But I think her best song from this album is Mujhse Tumse! I should tell you I didn’t quite recognize Shreya’s voice when I first heard this song as I was so used to her voice being really sweet! She is accompanied by Shaan, and she does an excellent job at this song. Something a bit different from what her voice normally is like but she sounds great as usual!

JAADU HAI NASHA HAI(Jism)

Well I finally heard this song and wow is it great. I think Agar Tum Mil Jao could be a remake of this song. The two songs are so beautiful. Shreya’s voice is like the voice of an angel here. Jaadu Hai Nasha Hai is a most mesmerising song and puts you into a deep trance. As you can see I can’t find appropriate words to describe the song; the song’s undescribable.
