First of all, thanks to the one who suggested this topic..
All that glitters are not gold and certainly the films that became hits are not the greatest films and the films that flopped aren’t the worst.Infact good real good movies fail generally.Let me list out the latter in this review.
The following are the great films that were too good for the masses(My personal opinion)
- Lakshya:(Farhan Akhthar)
After Dil chahtha hai, the director came up with a dominant theme of ’’Lakshya’’.The story of a fellow who doesn’t know where he stands in life and his migration to a man of hope and courage.Awesome narration.the film is pretty slow but never disintegrates.Hrithik at his peak performance along with Amitabh and preethi zinta.Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy scored the music with Christopher pope on Cameras.The Cliff hanger scenes can be compared to flicks in hollywood.
- Swades:(Ashutosh Gowariker)
From the director of oscar nominated ’’Lagaan’’ came up with a beautiful film with a wonderful message.The film was about an NRi coming back to India and gets stuck to the soil.Very well depicted.Sharukh’s performance as an NRi was just above perfect.The film has great music by A.R.Rahman.
- Mr. & Mrs.Iyer:(Aparna Sen)
A movie about incidents that surround passengers during communal riots and the love between a man and a lady(already married) that springs up on the go.the narration of the movie is splendid.Music was by ustad Zakir Hussain.Although the movie doesn’t come under commercial category, it had all qualities to become a hit.Astounding performances by Rahul bose and Konakana Sen, who grabbed a few awards for the movie.
- Dil se:(Maniratnam)
A movie from the finest director of India handled one of the most complex subjects just perfectly.The plot was a man falling in love with a girl who is a terrorist.
Excellent cinematography by Santosh Sivan.Music at its best by Rahman.
Visuals of the film proved stunning and one of the finest films the land had produced.
Performances by Sharukh and Manisha were a real plus to the movie.
- Yuva:(Maniratnam)
This is one movie that had a very different screenplay and story too.The story of three guys of three different stratas meet in a set of incidents.Although there is a scene that comes redundantly , the film is a marvellous venture.Good performances by Abhishek, Vivek and Ajay.Music by Rahman and Cinematography by Rav.K.C are the greatest pluses of the movie.
The list is not as small as mentioned above.Its pretty long.I couldn’t include some old films here.Five was a small count.A film made too perfect has never been a huge block buster.I don’t know whats the reason.Is that the attitude of the people?Or they just look out for entertainment?No Answer!!!.
Previously I had mentioned ’’Black’’ in this list since I had a misconception that it wasn’t a hit.But thanks to ’’white devil’’, ’’ekta_unity’’, ’’srininet1’’ for pulling me out of it.
