Well, my day begins with not waking up for class in time, skipping either bath or breakfast, getting thrown out of class for having low attendance, and thus the vicioius cyle continues. Life begins at 4 in the evening, when college’s over and hostel- where the LAN, is the sole source of living. Ya, and, the people in the hostel, the sitting at ’hotel dreamland’ for hours together for juice and food. If you know the that hotel, then you would know me and my college.
Oh ya! the review:
It’s interesting, in this life, how you never know what might happen each day. Although the life looks a little programmed into a sullen and recuuring series of everyday chores.
Being an engineering student, staying in the hostel, I would say chetan bhagat has done a wonderful job, covering the inside out of a student life. Reading the book is like, living in it for a few days, because these things do happen, and at the same pace, as felt in the book.
The Characters:
HARI: The Protagonist, but obviously, in first person, is a very vulnerable character. Doesn’t know what he’s capable of because he’s never tested his limits. The college-life provides him with the oppurtunity of realizing what he is. Very influenced by his friend Ryan.
RYAN: a brain, but chooses to use it alternatively rather than apply it to the curriculum. Rich, but never used it as a mode of show off, primarily because, rich daddy is not someone who he adores. Knows what he wants to do. A strong character with the knack of falling into uncalled for trouble.
ALOK: the epitome of nervousness, confused about the niche of people he wants to mix with. High voltage tension persists at home, which kind of makes him strong, but keeps crying. Tears were always free.
NEHA: A typical delhi girl, simple but wants to try everything that life has to offer, but at a reasonable time and age. A sensitive case to the history of her brother’s death. Loves Daddy Cherian a lot but is angry with him.
Prof. Veera: The saviour, has a liking for RYAN as a student, supports his endeavours and covers his ass.
Prof. Cherian: We all hate those lifeless devils trying to eat away our fun in college. But, there’s a reason to why he behaves like that. He’s suffered the loss of a son, and thinks that his daughter blames him for her brother’s loss, and also the fact that she’s gone array in life, has slept with one of his students.
Short story kept short. Not a literary classic. Written in a layman day to day flow. It is very addictive though. You can’t stop reading till it’s over. An amazing account of life in college. I’d say you’ll love it for sure. But, I’m living it!
