Its been a while since Id written my last review. I was just flipping through the old pages - and thought - this is a relatively safe topic to write after a long absence - maybe Id still manage to be in sync with the most progressive & aggressive people out here on MS. Okay - here we go .......
Firstly - FIVE - is a very small number to do justice to the topic. But Id still love to attempt! There has been scores of actors whove come in and gone out of Bollywood. As the mass launch and massive exodus keeps on happening on a regular basis - only survivors would qualify to be called "actors". So out goes Abhay Deol .........
SHAHRUKH KHAN - Undisputable on this choice and - unanimous - as most would agree. The guy keeps trembling all the time on screen! God help him - theres only one physical response to all the typical emotions! Irrespective of whether his scenes call him to be Happy, Jovial, Romantic, Sensuous, Sad, Down-but-not-out, Angry, Pensive, Nostalgic ---- and even Clueless - THAT MAN JUST KEEPS ON TREMBLING ALL THE TIME!!!!! Please mate - one Swades against all those years of sheer torcher - its heavily skewed to be accepted.
EMRAN HASHMI - Just like the "King (??????) Khan " - this guy just has got one response he can manage - HE SMOOCHES!!! At times youll wonder whether the guy can actually do anything else in his real life - other than smooching. And thanks to Bollywood - he just gets tailored roles which rarely gives him an opportunity to do anything else. Im seriously waiting for the day - when Ill see him on screen - in an engaging intense fight with the villain - where he finishes his dialogue and straight goes at him and starts smooching instead of hitting.
SUNIL SHETTY - He just cant act. And somebody has to do the hard talking to him. Yeah man, you have money & connections - you can get into movies and manage to get roles you like - but take this loud and clear - YOU JUST CANNOT ACT! If one does see one-after-another all the roles you play in all your movies - appears like youve been playing one character across them. Because every role has got same mannerisms, same dialogue delivery, even same dialogues at times, and same facial expressions! If you really want to act, please take up a role in one of the never-ending television sagas - those characters would do justice to your prowess - and the best part - theyll not be worried at all on the continuity!!
SHAKTI KAPOOR - Need we say more???? I wonder who did ever think of getting this guy a break in movies. He has tried almost every kind of role - Serious, Villain, Comic - but he still looks one of those people who want to be original - by not changing anything about themselves! A very large part of the roles hes played - the approach remains uncannily slapstick & is devoid of any effort from the actors part. He has worked under good banners and a wide variety of roles - but that has not made an iota of difference to him. Hes a Bad actor - because he has never ever tried to be Good!
RANDHIR KAPOOR - Well, hes a grwon-up man, he belongs to a good family - and Im sure hes a very nice human being - but he was a NIGHTMARE of an actor. Im sure hes been advised well by his family and friends - to keep himself engaged in the business of movies - but not to act. Because when he did some movies in his younger days - he was terrible. He survived for whatever time in the industry - that was for very different reasons - and know what - he didnt mature even with age!! Sometime back saw him in a film called "Armaan" - and I was thouroughly missing his absence!
So - theres my list - albeit incomplete, even in my own estimation. And I sincerely apologize to all for not mentioning Zayed Khan, Bobby Deol, Sanjay Kapoor, Fardeen Khan, Rajendra Kumar, Ranjeet, et al.
Hope you find time to read and comment on this Im-back-once-again review of mine.
