And the Oscar goes to ...

There have been actors and then there have been actors. An actor they say is as good as the character he has to portray on screen. And if it works it is the character that works not the actor. So instead of naming the all time worst actors, let’s just talk about the worst five characters portrayed by not so bad actors in a bad way.

Govinda in Shikari

Probably for the first time the comic marvel tried to do a negative role in a film. Shikari was the film. And his co-stars in it were Tabu and Karisma Kapoor. Govinda is supposed to play a cold-blooded killer. Let’s just say that he did a pretty unconvincing job.

Salman Khan in Hello Brother

Hello Brother directed by Salman’s brother Sohail and co-starring his other brother Arbaaz as the hero was a disastrous film. Needless to say that Salman’s performance was more than a little over the edge. In the first half he plays a funny guy in love with his best friend. And in the latter half he is a ghost. Although a few gags were remorsefully funny overall his character was irritating not to mention the rest of them who were a little more irritating than Salman’s.

Jackie Shroff in Kahin Pyaar Na Ho Jaaye

In this film Jackie plays second fiddle to Salman Khan who is the hero of the film. Neither did he have a well-defined role nor any memorable or significant scenes. He looked lost in the scenes that he was present and worst of all was a stage song. With dancers like Salman and Rani, Jackie had no clue as to what rhythm he was dancing to. A total waste.

Shah Rukh Khan in Maya Memsaab

Shah Rukh was to be playing the heroine’s lust interest in the film. A young guy seducing or getting seduced by an older woman. Shah Rukh did not feel the character at all. His performance was predictable and repetitive given his earlier performances from Deewana.

Vivek Oberoi in Road

Vivek has a complete hang-over from his previous film Company. He does not just look the same but is also dressed more the less the same. Who wears ill-fitting cotton shirts anymore? Not that he was bad, but anybody else could have carried off the role with or without making much of an impact.
