I must praise you Tribal Chief for such a mature head. The way you have dissceted the fizzled out Fiza, the criticism (Both valid and invalid) and the perspicacity with which you have gone into the details is admirable.
There are a few things that Id like to say regarding this movie, directed by film critic Khalid Mohammad. Well, Khalid rarely spares a movie, though I was surprised when he gave a five star rating to Satya.
I think he doesnt have any personal vendetta against anybody and observes the various departments of filmmaking extremely minutely. Now, while making his own movie, he seems to be rather clueless.
The discrepancy over Hrithiks age, songs meant to satisfy the commercial constraints, Karishmas beau finding (Oh-so-with-the-times) Amaans whereabouts after downloading a lookalike from the Internet, Karishmas fiesty dance number to prove her pointless individualism, Manoj Bajpais role never getting elongated or clear. Well, theres more, but....
On the positive side, theres Jaya Bachchan spreading winsome charm, Santosh Sivans hungry camera slurping the choicest details, Anu Maliks music score (AR Rahmans Piya Haji Ali is a treat as well), Ranjit Barots background score, Karishmas stellar performce in a weakly etched role and Javed Siddiquis dialogues (Especially the last dialogue between Karishma and Hrithik where he urges her to shoot him while remembering the childhood days was highly poignant).
It is quite apparent that Khalid actually felt the pangs of 1992 riots and felt it with an acute intensity. Yet, he himself fell to the whims and fancies of the formula that he had been deriding for a long time.
The only reason why I am recommending this movie with gaping loopholes is the fact that it made me cry. And if something can actually move you, then there must be something in it.
Hey Khalid, I wouldnt want to see your movie the second time around. But, yes, I am lookin forward to your next venture. I am sure youd learn from this experience. And as for you Tribal Chief, I am lookin forward to your other reviews. Quality matters!!!!
