Florsheim & Quality - the real picture

Hello,

Another saga of this outsourcing trend that is hitting multinationals in India, where they have some unknown third party doing the actual manufacture of what we expect to be world class products.

Florsheim shoes cost anywhere upwards of Rs 5000! And I, actually bought three pairs in three years till date in bangalore. Not because I am a shoe freak - because, simply put, they disintegrate...

  1. First pair - Mochi, commercial street, cost 5450/-. Lasted two months and then the sole and upper pasting came apart at the toe tip and the heel area. Returned to company for repairs - and I got a Rs 5450 coupon from Mochi which was useless for me since I do not buy brands like Mochi and all that - they are too low on quality.

  2. Second pair - Rs 5800, Metro, Brigade road. lasted three months and the same story started with the sole deciding to part company with the uppers. Again, company replacement and all that loop for two MONTHS and then the same cursed coupons.

  3. Third pair - again from Metro, Rs. 5000/-. These I am wearing at the moment and I regret to say that the sole is coming apart at precisely the same spots like the earlier ones. This time I will wear them till I am embarassed by their condition and then throw them away and forsake Florsheim for life, this life, my life and forever if possible...I have had enough of these coupons for this entire lifetime.

Either the Quality control at Florsheim is ZERO, or they are dumping seconds and defective stuff in our market. Or else, it is a case of third party manufacture and no ownership of the final product except for the Florsheim sticker!

For the record, they are really comfortable, though, really...I mean it which is why I tried three times!

Maybe it is our fault as Indians? - I mean, we plan to use things like shoes for more than three months at a time! Maybe abroad, they expect them to only last for three months?

Can someone enlighten me :-)
