Flowers in the attic is a gripping novel about four children, Chris, Cathy, Cory and Carrie, who are locked away in the dreaded attic secretly by their recently widdowed mother in their Grandparents mansion. Locked in the atttic whilst they await for their mother to convince her father to put her name on his will so to inherit his large fortune when he dies.
To survive this horrible ordeal, the children must stick together, or else perish by the whippings by their grandmother, lack of food, or grow insane by living in the closterphobic attic and their bedroom for four years.
But things get difficult when Chris and Cathy go through a rollercoaster of emotions when they both experiance puberty, and start feeling strong feelings towards each other, their mother stops visiting them, and their younger brother, Cory, grows terribly ill.
Flowers in the attic has been classified as one of my favourite books, and I feel that all poeple should experiance this compelling novel of betrayal, heartbrake, love and revenge.
However, I do feel feel that I should have waited before reading this book because I feel that thirteen is too young. Dont get me wrong, I loved this book, but their were some parts that were very.......detailed.......and I feel that I would have enjoyed the book more if I waited. Nevertheless, Im looking forward to purchasing the sequal to this book, Petals on the Wind, which is about the lives of the children when they grow up.
My mum told me to purchase it when I went to the library, saying that she read it when she was a few years older than me, and said that it was really good, and Im very glad that I took her advice because now, I have been able to experiance a fantastic novel which has been a best seller throughout the world.
