Fusion Diesel Cost Analysis

Fusion is an excellent car. Now you will ask me how? Just wait for my detailed technical review on fusion, I will submit it soon. I currently own Ford IKON 1.8 ZXI Diesel. I have been planning to buy a new car. Fusion is on my mind since long time. I am just waiting for Skoda Fabia which is expected somewhere in Sept, 07. I will compare these 2 so called hatches and I shall shoot for one.

Fusion Diesel is launched yesterday. And Ford MD says because of heavy public demand they have brought Fusion Diesel into market. Just wait!!! Before go and buy the Diesel Fusion, think again. Just look at the following indicative but sensible analysis.

  1. Fusion Petrol will cost you 6.5 lacs and Diesel will cost you 7.5 lacs (on road). Difference is of 1 lac rupees. Now lets look at if we buy Diesel how much time it will take us to recover that amount.

  2. Let’s assume that we take 85% loan on fusion and rest we pay as down payment. EMI for diesel would be 13500/- per month and EMI for 11500/-

  3. Now I am assuming 2 scenarios. Our total monthly running would be 1500km or 1000km. Petrol cost 52/- per litter and Diesel 37/- per litter.

  4. Now lets assume overall average in petrol 10kmpl and 15kmpl in diesel (this is overall average I am not assuming city mileage or highway mileage).

  5. Meaning Petrol would cost you 7800/- for 1500km and 5200/- for 1000km per month.

  6. And Diesel would cost you 3700/- for 1500km and 2466/- for 1000km per month.

  7. If you drive Diesel Fusion 1500km per month your monthly running cost would be (Diesel + EMI) 3700/- + 13500/- = 17200/-

  8. If you drive Petrol Fusion 1500km per month your monthly running cost would be (Petrol + EMI) 7800/- + 11500/- = 19300/-

  9. If you drive Diesel Fusion 1000km per month your monthly running cost would be (Diesel + EMI) 2466/- + 13500/- = 15966/-

  10. If you drive Petrol Fusion 1000km per month your monthly running cost would be (Petrol + EMI) 5200/- + 11500/- = 16700/-

  11. This means if you drive Diesel Fusion 1500km p.m. you will save 2100/- and for 1000km p.m. you will save 734/-

  12. Meaning yearly you will save 25200/- if you drive 1500km and 8808/- if you drive 1000km. more you drive diesel more you save. Now just imagine how many years it will take to recover 1 lac rupees which you are paying extra for diesel. If you drive 1500km p.m. then you will recover this cost in 3-4 years. You will have to drive 50000km in first year to recover the entire cost. I hope you got it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

For a while I thought 1.4 TDCI, 68bhp with 160nm torque (same as Fiesta) would do good diesel assuming it will give you good punch if you consider power to weight ratio.

But to my surprise Fusion Diesel is 30kg heavier than Fiesta. Somebody said it correctly, you should not assume too much because when you Assume you make Assof U and ME “AssUMe” he he he. Now what is the better option? Go for fusion petrol 1.6, 101bhp, 146nm torque you will enjoy this peppy engine with loads of fun & features, drivability, Ride quality and handling ? The only loss in buying petrol fusion is that you don’t get good resale.
