We purchased a Ford Ikon 1.4 Duratorq in Feb 2009. the price tag was the real selling point of the car. There were no other real sedan contenders except Tata Indigo for the similar price point. We had to sell of the Indigo LS as it had "N" no. of problems.major ones to mention being: engine overheating, Starter motor not cranking in hot conditions, uneven tyre wear, etc. etc.
To cut the long discussion short, the car wasnt reliable enough for long runs and had to be taken to service center almost every month. The cost of maintenance was exceeding cost of fuel at one point of time.
When we go the Ford Ikon home, the car was a absolute value for money.excellent fuel economy and no service costs at all(till date).Only regular service which cost below Rs. 1000(every visit).
Performance is out of the world.there is a small turbo lag but it sets off as soon as the RPM goes above 2200.Fuel economy on highways is 21 KMPL and City driving is 15KMPL(very good for a Mumbai traffic).
The only areas of improvement are interiors, plastic quality and features .to be honest it looks very dated. .Other points to be noted while buying one are seating positions. Should there be old aged members in the family the low entry, exit and seating positions can be a problem.
The rear leg room can be a problem if+6Ft passengers are going to be seated behind. Other than that, no problems faced till dated.just service it regularly and it will be a true value for money!
