I bought this car by 1st Nov 2009. I have driven over 10000 Kms in 5 months. This car is the best choice when compared with Swift Dzire Diesel / Indigo CS / Renault Logan. I used to drive about 2500 Kms every month. The main reason I chose IKON is because of the proven DURA TORQ ENGINE. All ford diesel vehicles use this technology. This engine is packed with Dynamic response with good mileage.
This Duratorq engine was developbed by Ford in partnership with Peugeot and Citreon.
Pros of Ikon:
comfort : Driving comfort is too good. I mean the response and ergonomics.
Ac : AC is highly efficient even in hot sunny day. cools within minutes
Mileage : I used to drive between 90 and 130 Kmph in AC mode in highways. In highway I get 17-19 Kmpl. you ll get still better mileage if u drive between 80-100 Kmph. In city even at worse condition I get 13-15 Kmpl.
Space : its really excellent both in front & rear seats. Also there is about 400L volume available to pack your luggages behind
Braking : Braking is really good. No skidding will be experience even when sudden braking is done.
Vibration : Even driving at 140 Kmph, l never felt the vibration or discomfort. Its stability is good.
Facility : At on road cost f 6.3 lacs, we get Power steering / AC / MP3 disc player / Remote locking / Vinyl seat covers / Alloy wheels / Power windows 4 doors.
Cons:
ABS & Airbag is even not available as option.
Rear defogger is not available
Rear view(Rear window) is much higher than other cars in this segment. so rear view is much difficult.
Some valid points why I chose IKON.
Auto car drive test certified mileage of 28 Kmpl. Also driving was done over wide range of Indian road conditions for about 20 days(20000 Kms) covering all parts of India. They have validated the best car in terms of Quality / Design / Comfort / Stability
problem rating was done and report says Indigo CS claimed 140 problems / Sift Dzire claimed 121 problems / Ikon claimed only 92. This indicates the quality assurance. These values were recorded over a period of 6 months.
Ford has localised the parts in India. So the spare parts cost are not very high as when compared in late 1990’s. For Figo 85% of parts are made in India and for ikon 79% of parts are made in India.
Ford uses synthetic engine oil. so oil replacement is done only 10, 000 kms once. while many cars in this segment changes oil every 5000 Kms.
So I would strongly recommend Ford ikon Duratorq diesel. With all features you get the best car at affordable price. Ford Ikon is really a good choice. There’s no doubt in that.
