My uncle owns an Ikon 1.8D - 2003 model. It has clocked 23, 000 KMS. He has no clue about the meilage n stuff. All he does is, fills the tank and runs the car for a month or so... Hardly the car clocks not more than 300 kms a month.
Recently I took the car for a drive almost 700 kilometers. And I was much impressed with the performance and meliage factor about this 1.8D babe.
I am from coimbatore. It was a trip from coimbatore to cochin - the route was eniterly different.
Coimbatore - Pollachi - Valparai - Athrimpalli Falls - Trissur - Ernakulam - Cochin.
Wow, it was a wonderful ghat section drive from Pollachi to Athrimpalli falls. Trust me, there is no ROAD. Heavily damaged road from Valparai to Tirussur. No petrol pumps, No proper hotels; nothing. But scenic beauty z wow ! I have no words to write. Thick woods and wildlife. Managed to see three elephants on the way. Now lets get back to 1.8 D.
Yes, EXi, good interiors, FORD CD player, speaker’s almost aged, not good quality sound.
3 of us. Jai, Karthik and Imran. A/c in the car is quiet impressive. Pick up is ok with a/c. But without a/c, it’s pretty decent. No over heating problems in Ghat sections. 0% tension in mind, cruising in that car.
I was driving all the way and front seats are comfortable enough. But imran was complaining that rear seats are too narrow. Huge boot... Man ! can carry 2 corpse’s inside. lol ;) - one most sad thing about the car, (generally in Ikon is), during reversing de car, damn - cant c a thing...
Doors are not very smooth... you get that click sound, which I hate.
Other wise, it’s a very decent, economical sedan. 1.8D endura diesel is no more in production. Any day go for FORD, strong, rigid and u can avoid rattling sounds which is found in most of marutis after 15-20k kilometers. Better than the korean ugly rival Accent. The interiors look great to look, but when u get close they are 3rd grade cheap plastics. God, easily gets scratched even by nails and looks old when u get in the car... Dash is sporty but no fun...
it was a 4 day trip from TamilNadu 2 Kerala. would never forget.
Any one please suggest about FORD escort ORION diesel. It shares the same IKON engine it seems. Rather it should be Vice Versa.
