Some Movies are made for pure Entertainment and some movies set you thinking? And, forest Gump is one such movie.
Plot Outline:
The story is about Forrest Gump played by Tom Hanks, whose I.Q. is very low and his reunion with the love of his life Jenny played by Robin Wright.
“Being a idiot is no box of chocolates.
Tom Hanks plays the intellectually challenged Forrest Gump and as a Forrest Gump, he has been presented with many memorable and historic events that can be aptly put under the “accidental experiences” as he does not realizes the significance of this!! As a Star football player he meets John F. Kennedy; as a soldier in Vietnam hes a war hero; and as a world champion Ping-Pong player Richard Nixon acclaims him.
Forrest experiences turmoil’s of true love through his best friend Jenny when Jenny eludes him.
Becoming a successful shrimp-boat captain, he still desire for the love of his life.
The world will never be the same once youve seen it through the eyes of Forrest Gump
The movie starts, as Forrest Gump is eight years old. He is not able to walk because he has some problem with his leg. Schoolmates tease him and after school the boys followed Forrest. Forrest frightened walked a bit quicker and tried to run as fast a he can. And it worked as his wooden things fall down and he runs faster than a man has ever ran.
This is the turning point in the movie because first he had problem with legs and now he has gargantuan legs that run fast and here comes a big change in his life.
When Forrest decides to join the army, he meets his best friend Bubba played by Mykelti Williamson. Forrest and Bubba are sent to fight in the Vietnam War where under the vigilant eye of Lieutenant Dan Taylor, Forest becomes a hero. On his homecoming, Forest is awarded the congressional medal that is presented by President Nixon. While Forest was injured during the war, he takes up the game ping-pong and becomes a champion. With the money made from his success, he buys a fishing boat and becomes a shrimp mastermind along with the help of Lieutenant Dan.
I may not be smart but I know what love is
He is sitting on a bench going to meet Jenny and waiting for a bus and talk different and diffident people about his life…amazing!!
He after Jenny has gone does not know what to do? He stands up and starts to RUN………….when asked about it…he told, “I just feel like running”.
One day he suddenly stopped running and turned to people following him and said: “Am very tired. Think I go home now”. and slowly walks besides all those wondrous faces.
When he met Jenny, she introduced him with his child played by Haley Joel Osment and Forrest Gump exclaimed “its me!!”
Jenny told Forrest that she is sick. And Forest married Jenny and Lieutenant Dan Taylor also came to attend their wedding ceremony.
Later on, Jenny Gump died of AIDS.
This is very moving and touching scene when Forest is talking to Jenny about their son and he told her very innocently that “He is brushing his teeth everyday, they enjoyed playing ping-pong, we fish a lot and he is so small kid”.
Now his child is going to school and he has come to drop him and he tells his son so simply that “I want to tell you that I Love You.”
Cast and Crew:
Direction:
Robert Zemeckis has given excellent Direction, as the underplaying of Emotions and Actions are tastefully executed.
Performances:
Tom Hanks as a Forrest Gump has given award-winning performance in this movie. His innocence touched deep inside us and wavers inspiration for us. His speech, looks are intriguing and awe-inspiring.
Robin Wright* Jenny is marvelous.
Gary Sinise* Lieutenant Dan Taylor is Brilliant
Mykelti Williamson* Benjamin Bubba and
Sally Field * Mrs. Gump have given outstanding performances.
‘Life is like a box of chocolates, you never know what you’re gonna get.’
The film another prized asset being its stunning special effects which occur throughout the movie. As seen in Forrest’s life he meets a number of famous people from the past, like JFK. They took old video footage and slash it around and which gave the stunning impression.
Dialouges are sappy and fabulous.
The world will never be the same once youve seen it through the eyes of Forrest Gump
The narrative uses the first person point of view through Forrests eyes, which is beautiful and lets audiences “feel” how he visualizes the world. Forest Gump is a cute character because he hardly cares what other people thinks about him?
FINAL-WORDS:
For the most part its too mushy, sentimental and must see movie.
I would end with my favourite phrase of this movie that Forest used many times, Stupid is as stupid does
And sure… Let me say this: Being a idiot is no box of chocolates.
