This movie was the biggest hit of the year and highest grossing too.Itwas made on a budget of 55 million and went on to gross 655 million.
It won 6 oscars including Best picture, Best director and the Bestactor.It beat movies like Pulp fiction and Shawshank redemption forthem.
Story
Movie starts with a feather flying around the city and than itfalls on the feet of Forrest gump[TOM HANKS].He is sitting on the benchand waiting for his bus and one by one people start coming and he goeson to tell the story of his life right from his childhood to grown upman.I won’t go into the story much but would say that he tells abouthis different jobs, his love Jenny, his mother and how over the years hehas done historic things and influenced culture.Also he has borderlineintellectual disability.
Positives
1.The first positive that comes in the mind is the Performance of Tom hanks.I will talk about it later in review.
2.Movie is very simple.Simplicity, story and the locales are Very refreshing.
3.Direction is very very good by the director Robert zemeckis and mind you it was a very difficult movie to direct.
Negatives
1.If any negative I have to give it would be that it is a bit longer than it should be but than I didn’t mind it that much.
Direction, Screenplay, Cinematography
Direction by Robert is superb.It was so engrossing and yet sosimple.As I have said earlier it was a very difficult movie to directand it is directed superbly.
Screenplay is also very constant and good and so is thecinematography which takes the beautiful locales marvellously in thecamera.
Performances
1.It was a one man show with an unbelievable performance by Tomhanks.Performance like his cannot be merely described in words.He kepta perfect balance of sadness and humour.He was simply super.I would goon to say that it is one of the ebst performance that I have seen andyou just fell in love with his character - 5/5
2.Other actors didn’t have much to do but they all did well.Notablementions are Sally field[Gump’s mother], Mykelti Williamson[Gump’sfriend], Gary Sinise[Gump’s lieutenant and Jenny[Gump’s love]
Overall
It has been a beautiful experience watching this movie.It justengrosses you right through.It is one of those rare blockbuster that isnot a sequel, has not very big budget, has no high flying action butstill u just love it.It for me has given one of the most memorablecharacters in hollywood history.
