It is said that war does leave behind scars that never disappear. And then there have been so many narrations of the people involved in wars that have been permanently affected - not only physically but also mentally.
And even after knowing all of this, there is war. This book is about a army officers that survived the war. Sudden deaths happening around the country and army officers getting indicted for murder(s) and they claim they are innocent. Theres another aspect about a set of people that were in the favorite war place in books, Vietnam, called the three blind mice and their activities long after the war is over. The book describes their outlook to life after the war and how they tend to find pleasure in performing similar activities from war back in peace time. So one officer gets indicted and sentenced for murders he claims he did not commit. Theres a friend of his who worked under him in the army and who adores him. So this friend Sampson locates his detective friend Alex Cross (who else!) and they try to get some idea about the conspiracy behind the murders. The book is an interesting read with the story being a little farfetched in my opinion but then thankfully I have not been exposed to war. Activity all the time and manages to maintain the interest of the reader.
There are for some reason romantic chapters - perhaps to show that detectives and army guys are also human! And then there are some aspects that appear to be inspired by the silence of the lambs.
All in all, if you are willing to read something that has kinda gory details, then this is the book for you.
