FRIENDS is something Im totally addicted to. My day feels incomplete without my daily dose of Joey, Rachel, Monica, Chandler, Ross and Phoebe! Their side-splitting antics are just too good to miss. Im so crazy about them that I watch reruns without whining too much...
This sitcom is something of a fantasy for most youngsters in Bombay. The lifestyles of the six friends, their independence, their attitudes are what most of us aspire towards. I mean, who wouldnt wanna be living with their closest pals, dating interesting people, hanging out at a favorite coffee shop and just chilling? So it has its flip side too, often one or the other is out of work or going through the trauma of a failed romance, but overall they have a whale of a time together.
Ive realized that all of us relate to the characters to an extent. Most girls could easily relate with Rachel (Jennifer Aniston Pitt), crazy about clothes, and a wee bit self involved. Some of us may be a little too worried about order and cleanliness, and of course getting married and having babies like Monica(Courtney Cox Arquette), others may be just a tad eccentric and ditsy like Phoebe (Lisa Kudrow).
Theres a little bit of the not-so-bright Joey (Matt Le Blanc) in every guy... or at least most guys wish they had his charm around girls. Some guys may relate better to Chandler (Mathew Perry), who strikes out with girls most of the time, but can make anyone laugh. Some may identify with Ross (David Schwimmer), who may not have Chandlers sense of humour or Joeys charisma, but once you get to know them, youd realize how caring, considerate and special they are.
So what if theyre turning 30 and dont have stable jobs or meaningful relationships? They take life as it comes and have a great time. In the latest season, we saw Monica and Chandler married, which was heart warming for most of us fans. And of course Rachel and Ross had a daughter. Maybe theyll realize that theyre just meant for each other and get together in the much-awaited next season.
Im nuts about Joey and his How you doing, and even though he may seem a little dense, anyone whos been watching season eight has seen how sensitive and caring he really is. He fell in love with Rachel, which totally changed his womanizing ways. And even though things didnt work out for them, he was always there for her...
The writers have given all of them have their own qualities that just make you fall in love with them. The kind of love they share, the way they care about each other makes me think theyre really lucky to have each other. Although Chandler is the funny man, each of them is hilarious in their own way.
And truly, as the theme song by the Remembrandts Ill be there for you goes, these friends will always be there for each other, even when the rain starts to pour, just like theyve been there before...
