A few days ago a friend of mine suggested I visit and join a famous networking/dating site called Friendster. For anyone who has not heard about it, Friendster is a common mantra among the youth of today all over the world. Friendster represents a very successful implementation of a simple concept. You get in through a friend who is already on it (can also get in without an invite) and once in, you become friends with all the people in your friends buddy list. You get to write a nice advertisement (resume..) about yourself and put it out to impress the world. This goes on and you get to meet a lot of new people who are actually your friends friends and so on.. Friendster has caught on very well and there are even reports that Microsoft wants to buy it out for kajillion bajillion dollars.. For all its wonderful features, Friendster has its fair share of goofs. The site is EXTREMELY slow and sometimes even makes you wish you had never signed up!! Privacy is a major concern and there does not seem to be a way by which one can delete an existing profile. The site provides features with which one can send messages to other members but in doing this also lets out your email address. That not only gives you a bad feeling about privacy but also seems downright dumb cuz one does not need the site to communicate after that. The website also has severe censorship rules and this has caused quite a concern among its members. The online dating business has grown in astronomical proportions over the last few years and Friendster has been a big contributor. The interesting boy/girl next door could be on it and this might give you the one way to initiate the conversation you never could.. Watch out though.. The friendster support engineers might not appreciate your sentiments..Cheers!
