Yet again, this movie proves that Kannada film industry is changing for the better. Yograj Bhat seems to be a boon for the ailing Kannada film industry; with Ganesh in tow, it seems he has no looking back.
Yograj Bhat seems to have taken the onus of taking the audience for a tour of Malnad region in Karnataka. In Mugaru MaLe, the audience has a great time going to Madikeri and in Gaalipata, the beauty of Kodachadri Hills captivates one’s imagination. Gaalipata means kite in Kannada…….though I did not find relevance to the storyline and the title, Ganesh flying kites is one of the most highlighted scenes of the movie.
Gaalipata is a story of three friends – Ganesh(the most talkative), Rajesh Krishnan(one who keeps brooding over things), and Diganth(the shy guy). They fall in love with women who are exactly opposite in nature - Daisy Bopanna(very silent), Bhavana Rao(bubbly and fast) and Neeta(the tomboy). Ananth Nag, Padmaja Rao, and Rangayan Raghu play other important characters. All the actors have done utmost justice to their roles. Special mention is to be made of the person who plays “Dracula”, the deaf and dumb servant, who has excelled in expression.
Script, direction, music, dialogues, cinematography, cast performance, location – everything is simply superb in this movie. “Minchaagi Neenu Baralu” by Sonu Nigam is an excellent song and makes you go gaga over Sonu’s ability to render Kannada songs so meticulously.
An excellent movie to watch and I do see the producer and director collecting all the major awards next year? If you know Kannada, then do watch this movie. If you don’t know Kannada, even then watch this movie with a friend who could translate. I don’t want to sound like an advertisement, but this movie is worth a watch.
