I went to see this movie afterall this is a little piece of Indian history that I never knew nothing about;and it was in some way a piece of my family history too. My grandfather was in Lahore and they came here in such terrors;that none of us can imagine.
PLOT REVEALED
Movie starts out with Om Puri narrating to us of why the partition and what was going on at that time;then we go to Lahore (now Pakistan) where all the Indians are told to get ready to leave for India ~~a train will come & get them a.k.a. a death train..
Those were the times that instead of parents giving their blessing of living long instead giving them poison so they won’t have to leave through the terrors..
Then a train arrives in AMRITSER full of dead bodies of all Indian people. All the Sikhs are shocked and horrified and they turn to kill all the muslim people in their townAmrish Puri (a rich muslim man) who want protection but they end up leaving their house and leave for Lahore but somehow Amisha Patel [sakena a.k.a madamji] ( Amrish Puri’s daughter) She gets lost in the crowd and she is left alone in blood. Some guy tries to take advantage of her but she runs away and she is found in the hands of Sunny Deol (Tara Singh a.k.a. Yamala Jaat). All the Sikhs tell him to kill her but he tells them that he knows her she is his madamji ;but he mang bhar deta hai to tell everybody that now she is a sikhni;even his family don’t support his idea & tell him to take sakena to the muslim camp. But Tara decides to take her back to Lahore where she says that her family lives. Some village people tell Tara that her parents are dead! While they are driving to Lahore she stops him and tells him that she wants to marry him and live in India with her. She marries him and have a kid (Jeetu) with him~~then she finds an old newspaper with her father’s pic on it ;he is the mayor of Lahore now!
She calls him and tells him about everything about that she is married with a kid. He tells her to come to Lahore for IDd;she does but somehow kid doesn’t gets his VISA so she leaves her husband and her child in India and goes to the plane. Where Amrish Puri is sitting there and tells her we will never comeback to this Indian soil againINTERVAL
Amrish Puri tells her that she has to forget about everything that happened to her in India and marry a Pakistani guy here but she refuses to and finds out that he was the one who didn’t let jeetu get his visa. Sunny arrives in Lahore in search of his wife, on the day of her marriage to a Pakistani. Amrish Puri tells him that if he wants to be with amisha he has to become a musliim ;and he doesn this is probably the best scene in the whole movie when Amrish Puri redicules India and tells sunny to say the same about India. He refuses to say anything bad about India and he runs away with his wife and kid;.the climax is when amrish puri shots his own daughter ~~ now I won’t tell u one thing is that will she recover or she dies? Which one?
PERFORMANCE
I can’t imagine anybody else as Tara singh or Sakena~ They both deserve a national award for their performance. Even the movie deserves a national award. Everbody was just brilliant.
PROS
This is one movie that will bring back a lot of painfull memories and will teach the younger generation about the partition. Story is written beautifully and the dialogues were really good! And one point in the movie that I liked was that there won’t be a Pakistan if India wasn’t here and India gave birth to Pakistan
All the songs were good!
CONS
Climax didn’t have to be that long;they just kept on pushing it! One song that I think was picturized wrong was HUM JUDAA - its a nice song but they didn’t have to show amisha dancing on it instead they should’ve just shown how sad she was.
ON THE WHOLE, MOVIE IS A MUST FOR EVERyBODY! I REALLY WISHED THAT I WOULD GET A CHANCE TO MAKE A MOVIE LIKE THIS ONE;.ANYBODY WANNA TELL ME ANY OTHER HISTORIC INCIDENT IN INDIA?
JUST A LITTLE NOT: IF U HAVE PARENTS OR GRANDPARENTS DURING THIS PARTITION ASK THEM ABOUT WHAT HAD HAPPENED TO THEM..
AND TO THE PEOPLE WHO SURRVIVED THIS PARTITION I SALUTE TO THEM THEY ARE REAL HEROES...
