Dealing with the Indo-Pak Partition, the first few scenes of the film are superbly picturised & shows people from India clambering onto the only train that will take them out of Pakistan. Thank God, we were not born in those troubled times! There is a lot of bloodshed on both sides which inevitably happens since a nation was split into two without stipulating the ground rules. Sunny Deol as Tara Singh delivers a mind-blowing performance.
He falls in love with a Muslim girl played by Amisha Patel. The bhangra song sung by Sunny at the school gathering Ek Mod aaya is well choreographed & has the audience clapping throughout the song. Amisha Patel as Sakina looks charming in the film although she has to cry a lot in the movie.
There is a lot of anti-Pak jingoism which would appeal to the front-benchers. Music by Uttam Singh is a delight. Anand Bakshis lyrics for a couple of songs are good. Direction by Anil Sharma would be well remembered for the crowd scenes, the train chase & the 1940s setup.
