The Bhatts have another potential hit in their hands! A gangster film without lots of "action" and "chases" (few shootouts tho)! An Emraan Hashmi film without sleaze (the only love scene is well shot n not vulgar)!
It is not an underworld movie as the title suggests, but a very well made love story - a very hatke experience and much better than most other hindi films released recently.
Though the movie is somewhat slow paced, IMO it is just right for the story. There are enough twists n turns to keep the viewer from nodding off. the 3 songs do not interrupt the story.
This is a love triangle where the three protagonists are Simran (Kangna), Daya (Shiny) and Aakash (Emraan). Daya is a wanted gangster on the run. he falls in love with a mumbai bar dancer and ditches his boss (Gullu) for her sake. Both of them escape the cops and end up in south korea on fake passports. Daya again goes on the run, leaving Simran alone in Seoul.
Simran finds solace in alchohol and in the form of Aakash. Aakash finally convinces her to forget Daya and come to him (sleep with him, in other words... ). Daya then turns up at her house out of the blue and learns abt Aakash. He tries to beat Aakash to death but is stopped by Simran. He begs simran to get back to him. The next morning, the cops arrive to get him and the two are on the run again.
What happens after this cannot be revealed without spoiling the ending for others!
The performances are very good. Emraan seems to mature with every film and looks very confident. He seems to deserve the 80 lakhs he reportedly charges now. Shiny is outstanding. He doesnt have much lines to speak but conveys a lot through expressions. He underplays the role of a strong and silent gangster very well. Kangna is the find of the season! she doesnt seem like a newbie actor. her voice is very unconventional and many may not like it, but it seems very natural and perfect (many ppl dont like Rani Mukherjees voice too). Gulshan Grover is effective as the Don in a tiny role and brings the house down with his on-the-face dialogs.
This is a good film and could win a few awards this year, as long as the SRK lobby doesnt interfere. The Bhatts can be proud of this one!
a funny incident in the theater: when Emraan tries to convince Kangna to forget Shiny and come to him, he grabs her hand. there is a pin drop silence in the hall, as the ppl wait for the next Emraan-chaap move in anticipation. then Emraan, releases her and walks out. Everybody in the theater began laughing. Then he abruptly turns back, to hoots and whistles from the audience. when the two start kissing, there was one more round of relieved laughter in the theater! u can count on Emraan not to let his fans down!
