Have you ever watched a movie which seems to be a preety sweet n soft for the first one n a half hour n then in the speed of light takes you out of ur dreams n shatters them into what we call reality.Thats what this movie Gangster does to you."Gangster" is not really a film about homicidal crime. Nor is it a film that dwells stylishly on the glossy exteriors of the high life. It focuses on the stark interiors of hearts that ruthlessly seek love in relentlessly self-serving places
Its cast:
Emraan Hashmi, Kangana, Shiney Ahuja
The storyline:
The film highlights the romance between a bar dancer Simran (newcomer Kangana) and a gangster, Daya (Shiney Ahuja). From a bar dancer in Mumbai to a lonely, pointless existence in Seoul, Simrans journey is full of thorns. After meeting Daya when she thinks everything is all right, she feels she has got everything in her small family. Her dream shatters when she discovers n unfolds the dark secrets of Daya[Shiny Ahuja], a man on the run. He is in Mauritius, then Dubai, later Seoul. He has no place he can call his own
Life changes for Daya after he encounters Simran. But the vile ways of his business eventually drive the couple apart.
While Daya remains busy travelling across countries, a lonesome Simran finds solace in her friendship with Akash (Emraan Hashmi), a singer in a local Indian restaurant. But Akash isn’t content with that; he’s in love with her.
The problems begin when Simran, too, reciprocates his feelings and just when they think everything’s right, Daya returns to face his beloved’s two-timing.
When Daya learns of Simrans relationship with Aakash, he promises to mend ways and fulfill her dreams of a normal life. But there are complications. Simran discovers that she is pregnant; she is carrying Aakashs baby. She is now torn between the two men in her life. She has to make a choice! Daya-the one who took her out of the dark corners n rooms of the dance bar or Akash-the one who constantly helps her out n supports her.
Only that’s just the tip of the iceberg — as the story unfolds, the conspiracy only thickens, leading to a climax that’s both shocking and disturbing.
What’s hot: Anurag Basu last hit headlines with Murder, but this is his best directorial attempt by far. His vivid way of storytelling is totally engrossing and Basu gives it more sheen with his crisp screenplay.
Sailing through myriad flashbacks, the director treats each character with care and caution — at no point, compromising with his script.
The Daya-Simran love story has some really touching moments — the dance bar sequences are handled commendably. Even the Simran-Akash friendship blossoming into love, is so smoothly woven into the narrative.
Many sequences leave you begging for more: the passionate song between Simran and Akash; Daya’s first meeting with Simran; Daya’s encounter with Akash after learning about the affair; the chase sequence through the streets of Seoul; and of course, the riveting climax that keeps you glued till the very end. The terrace shot between Akash and Simran has been beautifully captured on screen; just like all the song picturisations.
All the performances are of a high standard. Emraan Hashmi adds a dignified candour to his character; he’s understated, unassuming and yet very effective. In the last few reels of the film, he strikes you with his maturity as an actor.
Newcomer Kangana makes a spectacular debut. It’s hard to believe that this is her first film; she fits into her complex character so comfortably.
She portrays the pathos of being torn between two men she loves, to perfection; she’s definitely someone to watch for. Gulshan Grover leaves a mark even in a miniscule special appearance.
But the scene-stealer of the film is, undoubtedly, Shiney Ahuja. He brings the screen alive with his sheer presence. In the first half, the guy barely has two lines of dialogue; yet his impact is all around.
Watch him in the scene where he breaks down, or the one where he looks disbelievingly at Kangana after she’s betrayed him; that’s the mark of a superlative performer.
N last but not the least the superb music which begins with a superbly composed love ballad, "Tu Hi Meri Shab Hai", which appears thrice in the album and since its fantastic, no one is complaining! K.K. is simply amazing. His trademark high-pitched vocals are brilliant. The intermittent use of the chorus makes the track soar to dizzying heights. Sayeed Quadris lyrics (like Pritams music and K.K.s singing), are superlative - "Tu hi meri shab hai, subah hai, tu hi din hai mera, tu hi mera rab hai, jahaan hai, tu hi meri duniya." Hats off to the teams effort!
What’s not: Anurag Basu could’ve overlooked some glaring errors in the script. It’s strange when Simran complains to Daya about his way of life, considering she knew he was a gangster all along and had accepted him earlier. It’s also a bit unconvincing, the way Daya gives up crime overnight and even resorts to begging on the roads.
Basu fails to establish Daya’s criminal status: on one hand, he’s busy gunning down entire gangs in foreign lands, on the other hand, he’s running across streets like a common thief. You have the whole of India gunning for him, but this gangster doesn’t even have a gang; only one mute loyalist by his side.
This is a must watch 4 those who believe Love is true, loves sweet, love can move mountains n so on......
