Gator - A must have browser utility

Review>software>Gator 1.8.2.5

I’ve been using Gator for some time now but what prompted me to write a review was the bad reviews it got my MS members. I can see it now resting on my tray without causing me or my programs any trouble. Mind you , I’m a guy who hates anything on my system tray (The volume control is forgiven ‘cos I cant do without it) so I was pretty wary while installing Gator. I’ve been using it for a month and it hasn’t given me the chance to click on the uninstall button.

Gator is a small program compared to others of its genre and takes very little memory too.

What does it do?

Gator is a browser companion designed to work with IE and Netscape. It doesn’t support opera though. I haven’t tested it with NS but it works perfectly in IE.

Opera resides on your system tray waiting for you to fill in login information into forms on websites (like your username and password for your email account ).It saves these information in an encrypted file and when you visit the site again, it intercepts the forms and fills it up for you.

But IE already has those options built in, why should I use Gator?

Let me introduce you to a small but eye opening situation. Nikhil comes in one evening , types in his username and password for his e-mail account and IE , eager to serve asks him whether the password should be saved so that he doesn’t have to type it again when he visits. Nikhil clicks the ok button, checks his girlfriends mail, which tells him what fun she had last night with him, logs out and goes to play basketball.

Nikhil’s old man who has an account at the same site visits the site and to his surprise finds the login form already filled up for him. He goes ahead and clicks on the login button. The first mail he sees in Nikhil’s girlfriend’s. …And the rest is history.

The bottom line is that IE does not support multiple profiles with respect to usernames and passwords. Gator allows you to setup multiple accounts for users.Just login with your password and Gator is all set to fill in forms. There is a details page from which you can drag and drop your details such as your address, credit card details etc.

You can even choose not to store login information for particular sites.

So basically Gator is a cool tool and I don’t care what others say, I will be using it for quite a long time.
