Baby, It's Cold In Here!

I love my Side By Side Refrigerator by GE (General Electric). I have had it for nearly three years now and thus far have had no problems with it.

G.E. Refrigerator

Model number TFX20JR, Side-by-Side unit. With a Fresh Food Cubic Foot of 12.90. A Freezer Cubic Foot of 6.75. Shelf Area Square Feet of 20.1. Total Cubic Feet 19.7. The dimensions are (HxWxD) 66 5/8” x 31 ½” x 30 ¼”.

Comes with Icemaker.

Performance

A quiet package that reduces noise. A light touch dispenser delivers cubes or crushed ice and ice-cold water. Vegetable/fruit crisper with adjustable temperature meat pan.

Fixed fresh food door storage, which stores gallon containers. Five freezer door shelves. (each door.) The top shelf has a clear plastic door, where you can store butter or other items of interest.

Flexibility

Sliding freezer storage bin allows for quick and easy loading and unloading of frozen foods. There are three adjustable fresh food glass cabinet shelves that come out for easy cleaning. The texture steel doors and case hide fingerprints and smudges. Also wipes clean with just a damp cloth. Glass cabinet shelves makes for and easy cleaning. And the new deluxe handles are easy to clean as well.

The Shelves, Bins and Racks

The shelves are adjustable as well. You simply tilt up and lift out. Then you take the hook and move it to the level you would like. Now be careful if you have the glass shelve you don’t want to break it or cut yourself in the process of cleaning. The shelves are spill proof. They have special edges to help prevent spills from dripping to the lower shelves. This really works!

The bins in the doors are adjustable for easy clean up or should you need to rearrange them to accommodate your uses. There is also a divider that you can use as needed if at all. In the freezer compartment you can easily take those racks/shelves out. You simply release the lever holding them in on the front right hand side and take it out.

Clean up is easy. I usually use a mild soap and water. The bins in the freezer compartment are just as easy to use as in the other side. And they also adjustable in the same manner as above. You simply lift up and out. Put back where you need it.

The Icemaker

Ice will produce eight cubes per cycle, which is approximately 120 cubes in a 24-hour period, but depending on freezer compartment temperature, room temperature, number of door openings and other daily use conditions. On the door we have the options to choose crushed or cubed ice or water. There is also a light that comes on with each use or we can choose to leave the light on at all times. We don’t do this because of the electric bill. A waste is a waste!

The icemaker bin removes easily for cleaning or for removing ice into a bag for storage for later on. Be sure that you put the unit back until the tab on the bin locks into the slot on the shelf. If you don’t succeed the first try, try again until it fits in. you may need to rotate the drive mechanism a ¼ turn.

Safety Precautions

This is pretty basic stuff:

Of course proper installation of your refrigerator is very important. It needs to be located according to any installation instructions before ever using.

You should not allow your children to climb, stand or hang on the shelves or door/doors of your refrigerator. They could injure themselves seriously and that might cost you a lot of money. Also be careful closing doors around small children. A finger that gets pinched will hurt.

Never work on the unit while plugged in. Never work on the icemaker should you have one while plugged in. Never put your damp hands on a frozen surface, they may stick and cause great pain when you do get them removed.

Should you dispose of your refrigerator be sure and remove the doors so that no one gets trapped inside. And don’t use an extension cord.

But if you absolutely have to use one make sure it is UL-Listed (United States) or CSA-Listed (Canada), 3-wire grounding type appliance extension cord having a grounded type plug and outlet that the electrical rating of the cord be 15 amperes (minimum) and 120 volts.

Control Settings

You will find that most control setters have numbers on them, some do have letters. The fresh food control should be set at 5. The freezer control should be set at 5. With the initial setting being a 5, the lowest a 1 and coldest a 9. if you don’t have them set right then your refrigerator will not run properly and can cost you a lot in your electric bill.

The freezer control maintains the temperature throughout the freezer compartments. While the fresh food control maintains the temperatures throughout the fresh food compartments. Now keep in mind that should you move the control to 0 (off) stops cooling in both areas of fresh food and freezer, but does not shut the power off.

You can test your temperatures by the milk test. Where you use place a container of milk on the top shelf and check it a day later. If the milk is too warm or too cold, you will need to adjust your settings. You will need to allow another 24 hours for the refrigerator to reach the new setting.

Cleaning the Outside and the Inside

You should keep the dispenser well clean beneath the grille by wiping dry. Water left in the well may leave deposits or odors. You can remove the grille to clean it and inside the well. You can also keep baking soda inside to help eliminate odors.

You should unplug the unit before cleaning though. You can use warm water and baking soda (about a tablespoon of baking soda to a quart of water) to clean and neutralize odors.

For the drain opening in the freezer, once a year we should all clean this part by taking a solution of baking soda (1 teaspoon) and (2 cups) of water and using a meat baster, take the solution and squirt into the drain hole, which is found in the bottom of the freezer under the basket or drawer. This will help to eliminate odor and clogged drain lines. And be sure to clean behind and under your unit often. Keep the coils cleaned and dusted as well.

The GE Company Information

GE (General Electric) is a name that we have all heard of at least once in our lifetimes. They are a trusted company who make lots of wonderful things for the world.

Should you have questions you can call:

GE Answer Center® at 1-800-626-2000 in the US

You can find various other important phone numbers in your manual. Which you should read from front to back. Your warranty information is in the manual and it is important to know about it.

How I Feel

I love my GE refrigerator. I like being able to adjust the shelves, bins and rack to suit my needs. I can easily put 2-liter containers in the doors and fruit box drinks. I can also put a 12 pack of soda there.

The clean up is very easy inside and out. And sometimes I actually clean it! Lol. There is a troubleshooting guide in my manual, which I find to be very handy should I have problems.

And I could have purchased an extended warranty, but did not. I have several GE products and have for the most part always chosen their products above all others.

This particular unit will run around $1400.00 (US Dollars), but you can get them on sale. So check around for the best price.

I hope that this has helped in some kind of way.

God Bless!
