It has been shown that women who wear some make up are more successful in their careers, whereas women who wear a lot of slap are not.
Good grooming is the basis, clean hair, teeth and manicured nails, all the rest is enhancement, but still very important.
The secret to make up is to wear enough to make you look good, without it being obvious that you are wearing any at all.
Good foundations. If your skin is clear and evenly coloured you do not really need to wear a base. If you do need a base pick something suitable for your lifestyle. A liquid/cream base finished with loose powder will last and give the most professional finish, but an all in one stick is a lot quicker for a busy woman.
Make sure that the colour you choose is the same colour or slighter paler than your skin, darker make up looks very false and obvious. The best place to test the colour is on your jawline, your hand or wrist is not often the same colour as your face. I tend to spend more money on a foundation than the rest of my makeup as some cheap bases will change colour or dry out my skin during the day.
Concealed secretA good concealer with light reflecting particles will do wonders for dark circles under your eyes, however you got them. Dark circles tend to make you look tired and often older, so dont forget the concealer.
Are you blushing. A blusher will give warmth to your complexion, but only apply very little, and a nice natural colour. Thick stripes of brown or fuschia blusher look very unattractive so be sparing and blend it well.
Eyes right. Browns, greys and soft violets are the most flattering shades for eyes. Brown will make blue eyes more noticeable, and violet will enhance green eyes. Add a little eyeliner, mascara and some well groomed brows to complete the look.
Kissable lips.During the day a natural shade is best, with a little lipgloss to give a freshness. Keep the sultry plums and reds for the evening, when your hoping for a little osculation. There are some lip stains available that do not come off onto drinking glasses or men, they cost a little more but are cheaper in the long run as you do not have to constantly re-apply.
The main thing to remember is that less is more and you will not go wrong. Do not forget to start with a clean canvas, and that make-up will not cover up bad grooming.
Have fun and experiment with you colours, particularly for parties, add glitter and stick-on jewels, enjoy yourself!
