Charity begins at home and so does our green effort. Every day people eat fruits of all kinds with perishable and non –perishable seeds. Non –perishable seeds must be collected in this box which has 9 different fruit departments in it.
Infected seeds and fruits, bad tasting fuits must be discarded .Only good Seeds of apple, chickoo, peaches, dates, cherries, litchi, orange, sweetlime, custard apple, apricot can be collected in this COLD BOX .However some seeds needs to be first dried in the sun and then collected in this COLD BOX .eg.watermelon, mango, muskmelon .The deparments may be increased to 12 or 15 if there is more consumption of different varieties of fruit.
It is just like a cd player, when I want to drop apple seeds . I press apple and apple tray comes out .but this box is placed inside a cold box to preserve the seeds upto 4 weeks. When the limit of storage is full ie after a week or before the COLD BOX gives a alarm for eg.DATES DEPARTMENT –`I m full’.
Environment concerned individuals may contribute or donate voluntarily for this seed collection drive through the AUTOMATIC COLD BOX . .Get a lifelong free membership for this drive.Your name, pet name, family name, surname, society name, co-operative name, states name becomes the code of seeds contributed from your side mentioniong the date of dispatch from your house
When this cold box is manufactured, seed collection drive AGENTS must be appointed. Interested NGOS may be appointed for the same.OR help from environment support voluntary groups may be sought .Different varieties of seeds are collected by these agent in plastic layered cloth bags. All bags are unloaded at a HEALTHY SEED COLD UNIT OR ZONE .
The seeds thus collected may be sold at a lower price to the state governmrnt of India, otherwise according to the demands from research institutes, farmers all over India, nurseries, pharmaceutical companies, orchard growing farms, and export units, Botannical gardens . First 10 persons with highest contribution of seeds according to the situation must be awarded with cash prizes from the profits of this venture .(monthly, quarterly, half -yearly or yearly)
OBJECTIVE OF SEED COLLECTION DRIVE in Mumbai*, INDIA
1.REDUCTION IN BIO-DEGRADABLE WASTE OF MUMBAI .( Target- upto 100 tonnes of garbage per day is prevented from reaching the dump yards in future.Mumbai generates waste to the tune of approximately 7, 025tonnes per day. The waste consists of:
• 5, 025tonnes of mixed waste(bio-degradable and recyclable)
2, 000tonnes of debris and silt. The Municipal Corporation of Greater Mumbai(MCGM) is formally responsible for the management of waste in the city. We have, in our city, three dumping grounds which are located in the northern part of Mumbai at Gorai(Borivali), Mulund and Deonar. Deonar is the largest dumping ground. All the dumping grounds are nearly 30-40km from South Mumbai which explains the huge costs on transportation.
The increase in the population of the city has forced people to settle near the dumping grounds. This has led to the problems of people living in unhealthy conditions .But now they are protesting for the closure of the dumping grounds, as dumping causes health hazards.
A dumping ground is, generally, a low-lying, and marshy area, which is located on the outskirts of a city, they are harmful to the ecosystem& in future. if not prevented, pollutes the ground water. Also, flies, mosquitoes and many other pests breed on the waste
The average life of a dumping ground is 30 years. The remaining life of our largest dumping ground, i.e., Deonar, is only five to six years .
2EFFICIENT USE OF BIO-DEGRADABLE WASTE( wet waste).
3. REDUCTION IN TRANSPORTATION COST BY MCGM(Municipal Corporation of Greater Mumbai) as lesser number of trucks would be required .
In case of South Mumbai, trucks collect garbage from the garbage bins and transport it to a transfer station which is located in Mahalakshmi. A separate transport is arranged for transferring the garbage from Mahalakshmi to the northern part of Mumbai where the dumping grounds are situated. From all other parts of the city, garbage is sent directly to the dumping grounds. Nearly 95% of the waste generated in the city is disposed off in this manner .
This largely manual operation involves 35, 000 personnel employed by the MCGM and is collected by a fleet of 800 vehicles, including vehicles hired from private contractors, that work in shifts each day. MCGM spends about Rs15-20lakh per day on collecting and transporting garbage and debris with municipal and private vehicles making about 2, 000trips every day.
4 . INCREASE IN EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITY .-MSEs play an important role in employment generation. ORCHARD GROWING FARMS must be encouraged with special incentives which will given impetus to fruit based CONSUMER GOODS INDUSTRIES.(jam, jellies, milkshakes, etc)5.Generation of surplus stocks for export markets-India is one of the largest producers of agriculture items like vegetables, fruits, rice, spices, etc.but the agricultural productivity in India is very low as compared to developed countries due to the problems related to fertilizers, irrigation, technology andseesds.Indian farmers use poor quality offertilizers and seeds, outdated technology, and there is lack of iirigation, Therefore to increase Indian agriculture production and productivity, the government must encourage and give incentives to use improved varieties of fertilizers, seeds, use of better technology and better techniques of irrigation . Increase in productivity and production will make India not only self –sufficient in food items but also generate surplus stock for export markets.
*6.TO REDUCE THE BURDEN ON FARMERS DUE TO TRIPS AGREEMENT.
The TRIPS Agreement provides protection to patented plants and seeds .Generally the MNCS from developed countries develop new and improved varieties of plants and seeds due to their financial resources and expertise, Therefore, the MNCS from developed countries hold a large number of patents for plants and seeds.this may have serious implication s for agriculture in developing countries like India as farmers have to purchase the patented plants and seeds at a higher price. To overcome this problem, the Government of india must provide incentives to Indian research organizations to develop patents for plants and seeds .
7.DECREASE IN IMPORT OF AGRICULTURAL COMMODITIES-Domesticprices are more volatile when there is dumping of agricultural commodities by countries having bumper crop. Therefore, the government of India should take precaution s against large scale import of agricultural commodities. The government needs to protect the domestic farmers against the effects of dumping.
