I bought an croma portable a/c 1 ton capacity one month back. Im writing about the product and my experience of using it :=
Why it is called portable? It has wheels we can take it around unlike a normal window or split a/c which are fixed. What kind of mechanism it works like ?
There is a compressor and remote and all the buttons we have on an a/c
There is duct which is big and more that a meter in length, it pulls out hot hot air and should
be let out off the room
through a window, that means you have to make an hole in the window or wall
to let out hot air.
- Tf the duct is slightly bent the compressor will go off, it should be certainly put
in-order to allow the hot air go out.
- Water accumulates which should be let out manually, "yes you read it", manually like in an
air-cooler
My experience:
My room size is 8x9 feet only.
I put the duct through the window to let the hot air out. closed the window.
and kept the temprature at 25c and switch-on.
it showed the room temperature as 33c and a/c starts as the compressor runs really hot air
comes out through duct and one can feel the place where the duct is becoming hot too.
as time goes, say one hour, yes, one hour the room temperature comes down from 33c to 30c only.
Ok the temperature came down 3c after an hour is not the problem.
the problem is as the a/c works it started getting hot at the back of the a/c which is inside your
room and cool in the front of a/c, and finally the hot and cool air mix with other in that 8x9
room and temperature never comes down even after 5-6 hours of running of a/c.
i thought I should decrease the temp. from 25 to 20 and it gets even more hot at the back.
That means the compressor is running for 5-6 hours without cut-off that means
you get a huge electricity bill.
This is the real problem. so its not at all recommended to buy unless you live in a hilly region
where it is cold. if you are in cold place please buy and it can be used like an heater in that
way its absolutely worth it but definitely not as an a/c. I wont call it an a/c ?
Because the design is such that even though its called an a/c
its mechanism doesnt allow it to work like an a/c.
So the a/c looks like an air cooler and it works like an air cooler only, after
buying I found its not an a/c, I thought im getting confused and may be I dont
know about this product exactly, so I called the croma service centre they sent a person who
confirmed that it will
not give a/c like cooling. I got shocked throughly, imagine you buy an a/c
for rs.20000 and you come to know from the seller saying things like this.
I couldnot believe that the decision I took has become futile.
So I went to the showroom itself and asked the customer care executive he also
confirmed that it not like a/c its like an aircooler with a/c like features.
This is ridiculous, so I asked them to exchange and give me a split a/c
which they refused saying it is not their policy.
Now everything explained :
If you want a/c like cooling do not buy this croma portable a/c.
As the customer care exec. aptly put it "its an air cooler" not an
Finally on May 2013, I sold the (air cooler) for 7k, my 12k went in thin air, a huge loss for a salaried person.
