Wearing helmets is mandatory in most cities of India and is in fact the most solicited safety feature for two-wheeler riders.I have observed that the helmets, at least the designs that are currently available, are protecting the full head and face. They come in vibrant colors and flashy stickers displayed all over the helmet.
These helmets cover the full head and face, and they completely cover the ears also. This design prevents two things:
1. The rider wearing the helmet is not able to hear the horns of other vehicles or probably is not able to judge the proximity of the vehicle that is horning.
2. The rider does not have a clear side view due to the covering of the helmet. Both these aspects are critical for riders. Also the riders wear flashy colors and distracting stickers on the helmet, which should be stopped.
Helmets also should be give just one color for all types and kinds of helmets.I think yellow is the most recommended color for such equipment. Wearing a helmet does not make the rider invincible and the rider should very well remember that for the sake of his life. Riders often are seen swerving between vehicles slicing speedily through the traffic.
Often I thank the Providence that my car was a wee bit slower. Were my car faster than what the rider expected it to be, then there would certainly be a fatal collision. The riders should keep in mind that the other life out there is also as important as theirs. Many riders come under the buses / trucks and other vehicles, bringing an end to their lives.
Then the driver of the vehicle that crushed the rider is taken to task and penalised. But what are the police doing about the riders who offend the traffic norms while they are still living. What are the riders doing about that? All the riders who are reading this article, I request you to bring forth responsibility and care when riding your vehicles. Be safe, Live longer.
