Selecting the Right Mobile and Connection.

Cell phone has become a necessity now for everyone. If you were watching the trends happening in the mobile phone industry for the past two years, you have all the reasons to get amazed about the pace of the development in this area. I would like to tell you my thoughts on some things which anyone needs to consider when they are going for one mobile phone.

1. What is your need?

First of all you should be very clear about your need for one mobile phone. It can be for official purpose, for keeping in touch with your dear ones, or for both.

What are the features are (NOT) required in my mobile ?

Mobiles come with various features now. Many of the higher end features like WAP, Multimedia messaging are useless for 90% of the users, because of the cost and compatibility issues. So when you hear about a new feature try to think whether you have any real usage. Remember that this will decide the cost of the mobile.

I am a person who does not like to hang my cell on my belt or carry it in hand. I know I will misplace it somewhere. So I wanted a cell that can sit comfortably in my shirt pocket. Think what size you are comfortable with. Remember, very small models are uncomfortable for SMSing and all.

Silent Alert or vibrator is a very useful feature, so make sure you have it. Another useful feature is an organizer where you can store some notes or email ids.

Getting connected

Getting a right connection package is also as important. If your calls are mostly to known numbers, then make sure you have one or two of them in your free numbers list. Mobile to Mobile calls are much cheaper so you have to consider taking connection from the same provider for your family or taking the same connection that most of the people you call has got.

Study Your First months Bill.

Make sure you spend some time to analyze your first month bill. This will tell you some interesting things like on whom you are spending most, who calls you most and also will tell you whether the current connection plan is the most suitable one for you !

Just take the total out going time, incoming time, basic charges and additional charges. This is your actual usage. Multiply this with rates applicable for some other plan. Do it like this for all the plans. (MS Excel will make this very easy). See if any other plan gives you lesser charges. If yes then you should reconsider your current plan.

So that’s it for now. Hope this is of use to some of you.
